Rock chips......

are p***in me off!

My '99 chipped easily as well. Thinking about putting Line-X about 6-12" up starting from the bottom of the body, but I don't know if they have white or if it would even look half way decent.

Pic of said truck.....

I think it would look really nice if you remove the body molding on the lower side of the doors and do a black line-x up to the crease in the body just above the rear bumper all the way down the truck will never have to worry about chips then https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=154887 pics of my truck as example

Not a bad idea, But I wouldn't use white. White can be one of the hardest colors to match first of all and it will eventually weather to an almondish color and not look good at all. Like Rpainter said, black or even grey would look sweet on there.

Ha, rock chips are a daily part of my life now. My paint is now WRECKED from my 35's. They look super sweet but they can be a headache at times. Im not a huge fan of fender flares so I want to get from the front on my fender wells down the side of my truck and to the very rear done is line-x.

On a different note, does any one know or have a generally idea what a paint job would cost on our trucks? Im talking about just the stock factory White, nothing fancy at all. My passanger rear quarter panel was wrecked/hit before I bought it and the paint has some serious runs in it.

Mine is pretty bad under the door trim, especially at the leading edges of the doors. There is no paint left, it's all chipped away......I have also thought of doing some line-x or something that will hold up to the normal road debris.

That truck would look sweet with black line-x on the bottom.

Anybody try the 3M clear film? You can get custom cut kits for front bumper, front of hood and kick panels. Thinking about it myself because I already have one on the front of driver's side dually fender...and that's with only 1500 miles on 'er. Yeah, I'm PO'd too.

Yea but I heard it was real pricey. I beleive D.Wiggs wrapped his truck in that. Maybe he can drop a little more info on the subject. The 3M would be nice if you wanted that clean factory look while still having the protection, I think the Line-X would cost a little less and im sure it's alot more durable.

Im going to call the local Line-X dealer here today and get a price quote to do the rocker panels.

My 93 is sprayed like that.

My advice to you, make sure you take it to an actual, well credited, LineX dealer....basicly, anyone who knows what he/she is doing. Most places dont even sand the surface down before spraying and that causes it the peel later on in its life. Also, make sure its sprayed on thick. If its to thin in some spots, especially edges, itll start to peel.
Also, some places offer a "color" spray. Make sure that the spray itself is actually the color you want. Ive seen one rip off color spray job....the bed was sprayed in black, but the shop spray painted the new black bed red to match the truck. Obviously, it began to show in a few days when the spray paint would rub off.
thats my 2¢

Isn't there something you can buy from a paint supplier that is like thick clear coat?

They did this on my brother's truck behind the fenders etc. Looks like orange peel. Only notice it if you're looking close....

I think you can get in a rattle can.

I'm probably going to do this sometime soon, I hate fender flares.

Thanks for all the replies!

It would be great if someone with photoshop skillz could use that photo I posted & do black up to the crease in the body just above the rear bumper all the way down the truck. Thanx in advance if someone has the time to do it.

Let's hear some more about that 3M clear film also.

I have had this stuff put on my truck www.chiprotect.com , 3m makes the stuff. I had the whole hood of the truck done and all long the sides from just below the body molding and the headlights and driving lights and the painted part of the front bumper and the two front fenders(the whole thing). I like it works good and you cant tell its on there. I have had the hood and bumper re-done from it chipping from rocks a bit but the paint never did it was all done under warranty.
