We finally had a break in the bitter cold long enough for me to wash the ol' truck. I noticed in several locations, stains on the truck that won't easily come off with just soap, water, and elbow grease. Does anyone have any suggestions to get them off? I have several friends that do paint and body work and can probably get it buffed out for not too much, but was hoping that there was perhaps another way to get it off before going that route. Any suggestions?

 

wd 40 works good for a lot of them.

 

I had magnectic signs on mine and took them off at least 3 times a week now my paint looks cloudy.I ran them on my 99 silverado and it never did mess with the paint. The paint is probably the worst thing about this truck.

 

one fella posted that the minute rust marks are "rail dust" and a common occurence that you can see on any light colored car that was transported via train.

someone else posted thier dealer did an "acid wash" to get rid of the rust bits.



my white truck is COVERED in them, intend to call dealer sometime about the acid wash. my buffer wont' take them out.

 

I posted the Rust spots in paint thread. I did not want to get the clearcoat buffed as I was weary of swirl marks. Truck is Bright White. I tried a Meguires clay bar today. Man what a difference. Took ALL stains off paint and left it very smooth. Follow the directions and it really works. Thanks to all who posted info on Clay bars.

 

Believe it or not... try gasoline. Depending on what kind of stains you have it will take them off very easily. Just be sure to wax after you use it. Works for me. Also great for taking off glue from emblems or stickers.

That's one I hadn't thought of at all. Now that you mention the stickers and emblems, I have this stuff that I got from the local Dodge Garage that's really good at removing that stuff, too. Perhaps I should give it a whirl..

Try a clay bar. Might work.

 

if your paint gets cloudy forget about all the things to use to get it off there.mine is going in to get repainted next week.
