relocating 4wd switch?
relocating 4wd switch?
Has anyone seen the electronic 4h/4l switch being moved?
I think it would be a rather nice switch to move it over to the power port area right in front of your knee.
That way it would free up the area where the cubby hole is now so I can put in the triple gage set.
It seems as though the space where the switch and cubby hole is, is the same size as a truck with the floor shifter in it.
Any comments?

My previous Ford was the same way. When I picked it up after having it serviced on day they put it in 4x4 thinking it was the fan switch. Drove about 10 miles in 4x4 on dry pavement before noticing it. I was thinking of adding something to provide additional safety.

Shawn- I want to use the factory fake wood section and just take out the controls and then leave the original full size cubby hole. Mine is 1/3 smaller because of the controls.
There seems to be a small plate section under the vent that has the power outlet in it. Does that snap out? I want to mount the switch in that hole and snap it back in. I don't care about the writing that says 4h/4l. Did you need any additional wire or was the switch /wire long enough?
Nice Job!

Thats sounds like too much work to me! Check out my gallery pics.
I took the cubby mount and cut it down with a razor saw from a hobby shop. Then I epoxied a small piece of plastic to the cut end to give it a new finished edge. I put my FP and Boost in there and added the SRT pillar for my EGT gauge. No rearranging of the dash required. Besides, where are you going to plug in your Passport if you take out the 12volt socket?
Shawn-yours look good too!

The panel doesn't just snap out(where the cig lighter currently is). But you could probably remove the cigarette lighter and install the switch. I just cut out that panel big enough to put the whole switch panel there.
I didn't change any wiring It's long enough but you don't have alot of room to play with.
The other option is the identical panel to the right where the airbag switch would go. That panel does come out and you could keep you 12v outlet.

I have extra power ports already in my truck, so losing one is no big deal.
The quad cab does not have the airbag switch like the standard cab does.
Too bad that plate doesn't come out It looks like a stand alone piece.
When you took out that center dash piece, how did it come out? Is it just a cover or are there things connected to it?

I have not tried this yet but have read that on the little bag hook (lower right of cubby), that has a screw to remove, then the rest is just snap off. But, I haven't made it yet to install anything.
