Reliable? fuel injector being replaced
Hi guys,
First of all, let me say I love my truck...but its been in the shop for getting close to 2 weeks now. I bought the 5.9 hoping to avoid some of the new issues that would surface with the new 6.7. That being said I have 12000 miles on the new truck and have had the power steering pump and window modulator replaced at 6,000 miles, and now the PCM and a fuel injector (#3) are being replaced at 12000 miles. Am I just getting some initial manufacturing problems and this truck will start getting more reliable?? I sure am hoping so. The truck is completely stock right now and I had an injector start having problems at 12000 miles (not sure if the PCM has anything to do with it but the dealer replaced it saying it was bad).

Symptoms
Well,
I started to get a rougher idle and a "stumble" at light acceleration. This became more noticeable and was more of a miss that would vibrate the truck as if I was going over some rough pavement. I initially changed the fuel filter and that seemed to help for a while but the problem was back within 1000 miles. The dealer changed my fuel filter again and replaced my PCM. I cant tell you exactly why the PCM was replaced but I guess if it was making bad fuel/air decisions it could help to dirty up the injectors. I have been running Power Service in about 1/2 my tanks of fuel to take it easy on my pump and injectors but have had some bad luck anyway....

Do you mean ECM? From what I have read, the PCM (power control module) and the ECM (engine control module) had been intergated into one unit. The ECM controls the fuel, injectors. PCM controls the transmission. I could be wrong. not enough coffee yet,

Update - injector #2 replaced - truck back home
Well, I finally got my truck back. Took 2 weeks and it seems like the replaced injector has fixed it, PCM was replaced as well (though I had never seen a code when doing the key on/off trick). My frustrations with having an injector and PCM replaced at 12000 miles and a power steering pump at 6000 miles were kept in check until.......
The dealer wanted to charge me $89 ($68 part + 21 labor) for the replacement of my fuel filter during the process of diagnosing my truck. Keep in mind that the fuel filter (my fleetguard stratapore - 7 micron) had only had a few hundred miles on it and I told them that I had replaced it already when I dropped off the truck 2 weeks ago. When they told me that the fuel filter should be replaced, they had not checked fuel pressure and refused to use the fleetguard stratapore that was behind the back seat of my truck. Anyway, I personally voiced my disapproval of the replacing of my fuel filter as initial diagnosis and then charging me the money for an inferior one to be placed back onto the truck at a ridiculous price. I got the charge removed but not without getting myself pi$$ed off first and then feeling like a jerk for having to make an issue about it. i feel like when they have a >$40,000 vehicle in there for 2 weeks, dont offer a rental, and it only has 12000 miles on it, they should just take care of the customer without the cause for me to raise an issue. Oh well, just my $0.02.

10 micron
The believe the standard one they put on is the fleetguard standard (about 12 bucks from geno's and 10 micron filtering) while mine is the fleetguard stratapore
(about 15 bucks from genos and 7 micron filtering - recommended by cummins).
That $89 pricing is highway robbery, especially when the filter did not even need replacing, it appears to just be the first step they always do.
