VP44 Being replaced!

Finally got the Ok from DC for the dealership to replace the vp, Have never had a lift pump failure. PSI's at around 10 psi WOT and 13-14psi Idle, also passes flow test. Seems that there is a rash of these failures all of the sudden, and DC had to do some 'priority' stuff to get me a HO VP44 inside of seven days, seems they are on back order.

Thank goodness I went ahead a bought the service contract when I bought the truck, as it included towing and rental car for up to 5 days (longer if car is in-operable). I had to explain to DC Customer Care that not knowing when the truck would accelerate was a hazard to me and my family and that they would NOT like the outcome if something bad happened because they determined that the truck was operable and I had to drive it untill a VP was delivered. Thats where the priority stuff comes in I guess, if I'm paying for a rental, there is NO priority, If they are paying, then there is a high priority to get it fixed ASAP.

Its amazing what they will do to get out of paying for a rental car!!!!

I do beleive that the VP was going out late last summer, as I was looking all over the truck for something that would cause drag. Changed fuel filter and air filter at short interval just to be sure, still felt like pulling a plow. I have always used some kind of fuel lubricant, this problem, however, seemed to be triggered by heat. Never symptoms when cool but if worked or high ambient temps, then problems would surface.
Symptoms, Dead pedal, black smoke, if hot, would white smoke and not accelerate with out restarting truck.

Sorry its so long, just posting some thoughts and symptoms.

Good read. It's good to file all VP44 symptoms in the back of the mind.
