Turbo being Replaced
On Monday my truck lost power. It would start and idle but wouldn't go faster than about 10 mph so I had my truck hauled into the dealer. Spoke with the service manager yesterday and they are replacing the turbo. The truck has 28K and all maintenance has been kept up to date. I do a lot of highway driving above 65mph and just did a 200 mile trip on Sunday. At least it waited until I was at home.

The is the best kind of bad luck. That is one of my biggest worries is being stuck like that away from home, especially since I've done some deletes which may compromise warantee. However, it is these deletes that are hopefully ensuring I have no such issues in the first place.

It's funny you should mention the codes. I have a code reader and although I had a check engine light on, the reader did not receive any DTCs.

I've found that I could only pull the code (using the ignition key technique) when it was active (i.e. immediately). The CEL would stay on for 10 or so engine on cycles before going out. The dealer was able to pull stored codes though. I'm guessing the entry level code readers and key technique only work on active codes.

Picked up the truck on Friday and sure noticed a difference in the power. They replaced the turbo and did a BE software update. I have seen almost a 4 MPG increase which is about what is was about 6 to 8 weeks ago. I am about due for the 30K mile maintenance so I have a question for you knowledgeable folks out there. Do I really have to change the rear axle fluid and front axle 4x4 fluid every 15K miles? If so, is there other places to get it done besides the dealer? They are way too expensive.
