Receiver Height Question

Can Someone tell me the measurement from the gorund to the top of the hitch receiver for my 2WD 2003 Ram 2500 which I have on order? I need to order a new shank for my Equal-i-zer hitch. All my local dealers have only 4 x 4's in stock.

Thanks!
Re:Receiver Height Question
Wait until you get your truck and actually hook up the trailer. There will be some difference from truck to truck. Also you did not say what type of truck you were replacing. This can make a big difference. You may not actually need to replace it but just flip it over. Also you did not say if you ordered it with the factory hitch or you will be adding on after market one later. These hitches do very in the drop from the frame.

Re:Receiver Height Question

I am replacing my 1998 Ram 2500 HD 4WD with the 2003 Ram 2500 HD 2WD so there is quite a difference in the height of the truck and I will definitely need a new shorter shank. I ordered a factory hitch with the new truck.

Re:Receiver Height Question

I agree with SuperGewl. You might want to wait. If you are pulling multiple trailers you may find that you could use multiple heights. As you can see in my sig I am different, I use 4 different hitch heights. Another way to go is to get an adjustable. They are a little more bulky to stow, and the weights may be different, but it is another option. If you choose to go that way, you can usually find them at farm supply stores. Good luck and enjoy the new truck.
Ed

Re:Receiver Height Question

I'd wait too.

If you go ahead and buy one, don't forget to take into account the height of the ball when tongue weight is applied.

When I bought this truck, I did exactly what you are thinking about. Everything was fine until I set the trailer on it and it sunk too far down. The trailer has torsion bars rather than axles, and the trailer wasn't near to being level - putting way too much stress on the forward axle (torsion bars). Fortunately, the trailer shop swapped it for a shorter drop ball mount.

My 2500 sunk a mile compared to the F350 that it replaced.

Top of my ballmount is 21" (4x4). How much lower is a 2WD? It probably says in the sales brochure.

Be careful. Unfortunately, one size doesn't fit all. Close counts, but not necessarily in hitches. Thats why there are a zillion of them out there. Most all trailers are different. Example, my boat trailer is at a different level than my utility trailer - both "no mods". 2nd example: My first boat trailer (no mods) was significantly different than my new boat trailer (also no mods) - necessitated a different ballmount - all for the same boat.

Is your 17.5 inch requirement measured when the truck is unloaded or loaded. Could be be big difference. It is on my truck.

Re:Receiver Height Question

Went to 2 different shops & got that answer. One shop built trailers for a living & the other was a machine shop 2 hrs away from the other.
