Recalling a recall...

What ever happened with that pending recall of '03-'05 CTDs with automatics? It was to install some sort of lame backup alarm similar to what the '06s have. The last I heard, notices were supposed to go out in December. Has anyone received one or know what's going on?

Never recieved anything, but heard mention of it on these boards. Sounds like they have a buzzer that scares the crap out of you if you don't put it in drive all the way. Me, I'll just put it in drive and not worry about. I haven't really had a problem with mine.

with everything i've heard, they can keep that recall. I'll just stick with using my parking brake and not get the annoying honk all the time with door open and in reverse. DC really came through with that recall. "driver error"

I think it actually only applies to when you dont put it in Park all way. Say for example you thought you put it in park, you get out of the truck, and then it slips into R because it wasn't in Park all the way.

There was a story in the news not too long ago where someone had gotten out of a dodge dakota while it was still running, and it ended up taking off and ran over a kid playing nearby.

so yeah, if i ever get the notice, I'll get it installed...

I get the idea behind it, it's a good idea, but a bad fix for DC's mistake. A lot of the 05's were having trouble holding the gear in park, even when re-assuring it was in, it would slip into reverse.

I can see how it's nice to have but how many times have you tried backing up to a trailer with the door open and in reverse to hook up... try doing it in an 06... all hell breaks loose.

Yeah my buddy and me were sippin some suds offa the hood of my truck and listening to Clint Black when it rolled forward and ran over his foot. Problem was it squashed his steel toe onto his toes. Went to emergencg room and then called old attorney I knew from workers comp claim years ago. We're gonna stick it to em good!

You know how the horn goes off when you push the panic on your keyless remote......well that is the sound it makes when you open the door when it is in reverse.....I haven't tried it yet with the seatbelt still on. You don't want it!

If your belt is in place then the panic alarm is stiffled (and i do mean panic, wow). I can see where it could save an accident, friend had his back into a gas pump (assumed it was in park). With that, its a pain when you need to back up with the door open around the yard or wherever, backing up wide trailers etc. I made a blank latch from plastic and leave it on center counsel. PS dont think of using the center belt latch, different size!!!!!

I had this problem, I was at work and jumped out to sign out of the building I was in. I put the truck into park, left it running, ran around the front of the truck and after getting 20 ft or so away I see my truck moving backwards in the reflextion in the glass door. I think I yell some choice words and ran after it. The sad thing was the passenger door was lock and I couldnt get in fast enough to stop the truck before taking out a few metal signs and scrapping up the whole right side of my truck. I only had the truck for a week at this time and swore I had put it into park. But no one ever believed me. Its only happen a few times after that, but with the lesson learned the parking break goes on before the truck is turned off everytime now. I'm just glad no one was hurt.

Wouldnt mind if dodge took care of my insurance bill. The damages raised my payment about $500 a year.

So has anyone found a way around this yet?

While backing my truck into my driveway, I like to get it right on the edge of the grass.

I had my truck in the dealer last week for some minor work, and they said they took care of a recall for me for safety reasons. I was in a hurry and didn't get an explanation.

I went fishing this weekend and was backing my truck into my driveway to load some coolers and what not, around midnight or 1am. I always open my door and boy was I suprised! I had to have woken up at least 3 neighbors...luckily a few are younger like me, so they were probably up anyways.

I'd like to find a way around this, without having to mess with the seatbelts. I use my e-brake 100% of the time, and have no need for this warning alarm.

Is it non-functional if you keep your seatbelt on?

Thanks
SQ

I have NOT had a problem yet with my 05 but this made me think of something. What happens if you do have a TSB installed and then decide you really don't need that TSB. Is there a way to un-install their TSB's?

This would be a good example as I would hate to have this one installed on my truck but if it is in the Dealer to be worked on and they upgrade to all TSB's available at that time, it would stink.
