I received mine today also and I don't think that I want to have it installed. Sounds like a big PITA.

Your neighbors will hate you for it...wish I could change mine back. Hell, I wish they would've told me they were going to do the recall. I was never warned or anything. I went to pick my truck up and they said, "Oh yea, we did a recall...".

Didn't bother explaining what it was or anything...I found out at midnight when backing into my driveway! My neighbors found out as well!

Got the notice yesterday.

I really don't want this on my truck. I intend to ignore the whole thing.

My notice came yesterday(Monday 3-27).

I've got a coupon for a $59.95 oil change from my D.C. dealer, so I think I'll arrange both the recall fix, and the oil change for the same day if possible.

Otherwise..........8k+ miles on my 05 and it's running trouble free...........both engine and body integrity.

Got mine

My notice came last Friday. I'm keeping my truck for a few more years, think I'll file the notice in in the glove box with the owner's manual and let the next guy worry about it.

Got mine in the mail today! If my dealer thinks Im gonna have this put on my truck hes crazy!! Im constantly backing my utility trailer down my driveway with my door open, which is 3 feet from my neighbors bedroom window. Its bad enough hes gotta deal with the diesel late at night, imagine listening to the horn blaring at midnight!! Another lame way D/C covers up an existing problem!!

If you ever sell the truck, and didn't have that recall done and the new owner somehow has a bad accident because of the Park/Reverse alarm not warning them, couldn't there be some serious liability responsibilites for the original owner who ignored the recall, "fix"?

Good point, I'll make sure the buyer is aware of it.

The real question is: Is it really a safety problem, or just people not checking to make sure it's in "Park" (& using the parking break) before they exit the vehicle with the engine running? I don't see how it could happen on my truck. When it says "P", it is in park.

I plan on keeping my truck a REAL LONG TIME, I have another 4yrs worth of payments left . If Im the one driving it, paying for it, and taking care of it, Than I choose to do what I want. Its my vehicle. I had a GMC thats had some misc. small recalls, never had them done, sold the truck, and never had a problem. To me, worst case scenario is, If I never had that stupid Reverse alarm recall done, and by chance my truck slipped out of gear, D/C wouldnt cover anything.

This subject was talked about a few months back when all the new '06 owners started to complain about this alarm. I think its pretty pathetic that D/C thinks this is the way to solve this problem about these trucks popping out of gear. To me, the right way to do it is to look over and repair or adjust the likage, maybe install a park gear lever, or trans lever with a more positive lock or detent. But D/C wont do it this way because it would cost them a ton of money, so instead they go the easy route, do a 2 min, computer re-program, and install an alarm. Thats their way of making sure thay cover their behinds in this subject.

I refuse to have this done to my truck, I live in Staten Island, and my neigbors windows are 3 ft from my drive way. I always back my trailers down my driveway looking out my door to make sure I'm staying in-line. I wouldnt want to listen to someones horn blaring at 12, or 1 in the morn.

Im old school, Im paying for it, im keeping up with it, you want to touch my truck for "Your Problem", fix it the right way, or dont touch it at all.

I suppose you could always put a piece of tape over the door A piller button or wherever it's located if you plan on doing some prolonged backing-up with your driver's door open.

just cancelled my appointment

Got my recall letter today and was going to take my truck in tomorrow morning. Then thought, they might add that back-up panic horn everyone has been complaining about. After reading, I called and cancelled my service appointment. I'll take my chances...no problems so far, and don't plan on any. I like my truck the way it is. I have to agree with previous post, what a stupid fix for a problem. Now you can hear your truck as it goes in reverse and smashes into the neighbors car. That's handy!

Just where is that stupid little switch? I noticed that there is NO switches like the old days that when you open the door and the light comes on. I think it is all in the wiring now a days or something. I haven't been able to find it.

The "door" switch is now incorperated into the complete latch. Theres alot of people that ask how to stop the "dinging" while they are cleaning their truck with the doors open. You trip the latch with a pen or your finger, and the noise goes away. It not like older vehicles where you had that little plunger button in the door jamb. You just have to remeber that you tripped the latch before you go to close the door!! (speaking from experiance )
