Rear Bumper Removal
Hi All
Is it difficult to remove the rear bumper?
I have a dent in it that I want to pound out, but can't get behind it with a hammer.
I was going to pop a hole in it and put a bolt and backing plate and pull her out, but I would rather take it off and trying some message first.
Is it a big job?
Would a heat gun make the metal more maliable?
You can spit on these bumpers and dent them!

If this thing isn't a pain to get off I am going to have at it just for fun.
If I bugger it up...I will probably buy a heavy duty aftermarket replacement.
Its not hard, just did it last week on mine (I replaced mine) Crawl under and look up, there are three bolts on each side that hold the bumper in place, two are bolted into the rear frame, and one into the rear most cross member, this is on each side. Rember to disconnect your license plate lights and trailer connector if you have one.

my dads 03 didnt come with a tow hitch, and to remove the bumper we had to unbolt the bed, as there are to loops that catch the frame under the bed. it's not hard, just time consuming. Hope you dont have that kind
Wow, I didn't think the new ones were that expensive. For a front with top cover, lower fascia, and air dam I paid less than $500 two years ago.
I've replaced my share of bumpers both front and rear over the years. Gotta love employees!
Rear bumpers can be done in about 20 minutes + any time you spend adjusting, which if you are a fanatic like me could be hours.

I found a couple of bumper replacements out on eBay for about $275, but I ended up taking the bumper off and punding the snot out of it for a couple of hours. Yep, I did wrinkle the chrome a bit, but it looks a heckuva lot better than it did.
Here's one of the eBay ones: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-O...spagenameZWDVW
I'll still replace it one of these days, but for now...
