Rancho 9000XL Question

Sorry if this is a stupid question. A Google search, a search of this site, and a search of Rancho's site didn't turn up an answer to my question.

Regarding Rancho 9000XL adjustable shocks...do they provide resistance to both compression *and* expansion? I've heard that some of the gas charged shocks only provide resistance to compression. If that's true of the 9000XL's, they're not what I'm looking for. Thanks.

As far as I know all (usable) shocks provide rebound damping.
I got one of the first sets of RS9000XLs for my 2006 and have over 35,000 miles on them. Been very happy with them.

Shouldn't your rebound be controlled by your springs more then the valving?

the shock dampens forces in both directions. it has different valving characteristics for compression and rebound. some shocks may be valved the same in both directions

Exactly and a shock valved the same in both directions is called a steering damper.

Spring support the load. Shock control it and do the damping.

I wonder if the adjustability is just from compression as well. Most like it is.

Seat of the pants tells me that the adjustments control compression and rebound an equal amount. Unladen I run 4 in the front and 0 in back, when loaded I run a 6 in front and 4 or 5 in back.

Actually, that would probably make the most sense as they are probably not independent circuits with separate valving and control.

Not much of a difference than a steering stabilizer (or damper) then... Other that the actual amount of damping being accomplished.
