Angry Ram Scared the Stuff Outta Me!!!

OK '06 owners...New little gadget on our trucks

Backing into dads yard today...Opened the door to look out and make sure I wouldnt run into the flowers.....

Horn starts blaring, lights flashing, disco ball dropped from the ceiling

WTH!!!!!

Threw it in park and started hitting the panic button to turn it off...Everything stopped.....Dropped in back into R and it all started again

I learned that our new trucks have an in-gear alarm system...Found it in the manual:

IF:
The engine is running
The trans is in any gear other than P or N
The seat belt is unlatched
and the driver door is opened

all hell breaks loose to tell you that you are still in gear.....I guess to prevent you from exiting the vehicle while it is still in gear

I can see this becoming a SERIOUS PITA!!!!!

Bet it has to do with the ones reported that have come out of gear(autos)and have rolled/driven off by themselves.Supposly a RECALL coming down the pipeline to retro the previous year models(3gs)

I will have to read if my '05 has that as well. It sounds as if you had a "charmin moment" after that one!!!

Geez, I thought my son (toddler) getting a hold of my keychain w\alarm remote without me knowing, and later opening the door to the truck, getting a real nice suprise. Now Dodge is putting this suprise in the works too. Dang.

My guess is it is like those tags on hair dryers that says not to use it in the shower.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I knew someone that ran over her own kid because she got out of her truck and left it in gear with the engine running. Luckily the child survived, but she still had serious injuries

Just another reason to keep with the old stuff like me. We are getting closer and closer to the OSHA Cowboy.

Seriously people that dumb shouldn't breed. It takes about 1/4 of a second to push the parking brake down.

In the 60s', many of us left the door open in case the brakes failed on those sorry canyon grades.

I hope that feature can be disabled. What's the parking brake for?

I don't have it nor do I want it, but I like it.

Perhaps it will help get my attention the next time someone runs over themselves with thier own truck. You can only see so many of those in one life! LOL

Kodak moment for sure.

Christov - this feature isn't on the '05. At least not with the manual tranny. Sounds like someone at DC wants to avoid liability for the folks that think that cruise control is the same as auto-pilot...recall the bright sparks that would set the cruise control on in their motor home then go back and pour themselves a coffee.
