Prodigy Brake Controller Install
The other day I installed my Prodigy in my truck. I got the necessary universal brake controller harness for Dodge from Tractor Supply Company. Since my truck didn't come with the tow package, I had to wire in the Mopar 7-pin controller myself, as well as run the wire for the brakes up to the front.
I installed the brake controller where the ash tray goes using a piece of 3/4" x 1/16" aluminum which I bent and drilled holes in so that it would catch the stock holes for the brake controller and a stock screw that's behind the ash tray. It's in a very desirable location as it's easy to get at and easy to see. Plus, the way I did it I didn't have to put holes in the new dashboard, a major plus.
Here's a picture:

No good for me. That ashtray is the perfect location for my cellphone. I have my Prodigy just above and to the left of my right knee. I've never come close to hitting it. It's mounted on the removable panel.

NJMurvin: I actually normally keep my phone on the center console because anyplace on the dash would be too much of a stretch for my headset (which I have to use in my left ear as my right ear doesn't pick up voices as well) and also have it plugged into the power inveter.
As I said, I didn't want to have to drill any holes in the factory panels. My setup is 100% reversible in about 2 minutes and doesn't butcher the panels. To each his own, I just like the way I did it and thought I'd show for those who might want to do the same.
Whitmore: Definitely no smoking in my truck! My truck's allowed to smoke (but it only does sometimes in the morning... you know, that first smoke just to get it going
), but not my passengers!

tdupuis,
Yup. I agree. I'm thinking about having the bluetooth wireless handsfree package installed on mine. I'll have to change phones, though. As for the holes, they're pretty small and hard to see. Besides, I figure when I sell the truck someday, the Prodigy will just go with it.

Ahh, I'm a cheapskate. My Prodigy was in my old 6.5 truck. Decided to take it as well as my CB with me when I switched. My headset has an amplification option for extra volume if I put in some batteries. I should probably do that for the drives. Otherwise it's very comfortable. Jabra headset. On my drive up from San Antonio with the truck when I first got it (1100 miles in 14 hours 45 minutes) I had the headset in my ear almost the entire time with no discomfort.
Yeah a couple of holes in the panel is nothing to worry about. Maybe DC will get smart like Ferd did with the 05 and include the brake controller as part of the TT package
I used to have a Prodigy but I replaced it with the Jordan Ultima 2000. I installed it in the same place. There are pics in my Members Photo section.
