Another smoking question.
Another smoking question.
I have read several posts about smoking but still don't understand just how much smoke I should be seeing. Yesterday I pulled onto the highway and had to accelerate hard, between 3/4 to WOT, to keep from gettng run over. Besides it is just fun to get on it sometimes. Anyway when I looked in the mirror I was leaving a long trail of heavy black smoke. How much smoke is normal? How much should a truck smoke when accelerating from a stop or a rolling start?

Your truck should NOT be producing a large sum of heavy black smoke. Even at WOT my 04.5 doesn't produce any smoke. Only will sometimes produce white smoke on start-up.
Stock form, smoke should be very minimal if at all.
When engine is equipped with a fueling box , injectors and larger turbo, SMOKE HAPPENS. More fuel to the engine (injectors and fueling box) and low boost conditions (bigger turbo) with more fuel is present, you will see smoke.

Mine does the same as you described and I'm being told its normal. Some unburned fuel is what causes it. Mine does not smoke though under normal driving conditions. Only when I accelerate hard.
