And whats behind door number 8..... ANOTHER PROBLEM!!!
Just got my truck back from the dealer yesterday from putting a new water pump in and a seal in the front end... noticed it had a code for coolant temp too high, drove to work this morning and my truck was running about 30* hotter than normal and noticed my coolant was low... AFTER THEY SAID THEY FILLED IT!!! took it to the dealer after work to get more coolant put in, so they filled it up and off i go... i drive 2-3 miles on the interstate and wham temp hits 240*!!!!!! check gages light comes on and i pull over and shut her down. call the roadside assistance and sent back to the dealer. it has already been at the dealer 3 days for the water pump and seal before i got it back yesterday! im hoping its just a air pocket from the coolant causing the overheat. im really ticked off!
Heres a site everyone hates seeing! I sure did sitting on the ramp broke down with 10 powerjokers driving by staring at my disabled almighty cummins!!!

I am sure it was just an air pocket, if ya fill to fast it will trap air and is hard to get out, I would get a jug of coolant and pack with me to keep it topped off till all the air is worked out, If any further problems I would make em change the thermostat since it has been exposed to that high of a temp.
Good Luck

thanks for the response, ill keep that in mind. if it keeps getting these air pockets how long of a time do i get this heat for? i shut it down right away so i dont know how long it would of last untill that pocket "went away"...???

I agree. Make sure they change that T-STAT even if they say it don't need it.

yep, they havent started working on my truck yet, it got to the dealer at 5:30 and they closed at 6 (service dept) so they are "suppose" to start on it in the morning... do you guys think they will put a t-stat in it or what do you think they will do? i highly doubt they add a tstat personally... thanks for the help so far, im fed up with this dealer but didnt really have a choice on where to take it... i was already late for my STUPID chemistry class...

When he is saying "T-STAT"... I think he means put a termo in ASAP, as soon as possible, STAT, meaning now.... Just so you know... from the way you typed the above note - I can't tell if you knew this....
also - I hope this is what he meant...

My experience with T-stats in the past are that if overheated the could bind on themselves and stick in ant position, a T-stat is made of bi-mettal ..................If they wont replace the T-stat than IMHO it be of your best interest to do it on your own even if it means you pay..................lay it on them hard and tell them that you wont accept anything but a new t-stat. be tough on it.

Definitely have to go with replacing the t-stat on this one. After severe overheating like that they can get all screwed up, and a stuck t-stat can wreak all kinds of havoc. They may say "Look, it's fine. We're idling it and it's not overheating." That could just mean that it's not stuck 100% closed. Considering how hard these trucks work and how much heat you produce when you're towing with them (note the intercooler larger than almost any radiator I've seen, and the radiator larger than some engines), you want to ensure you have full coolant flow.
Good luck! Yell at the dealer as much as is necessary. If you have to, borrow a New Yorker to go with you. We're "Built Brooklyn Tough"
