Is this possible?

I have had a horrible pinging in the 1500-2000 rpm range..Dealer says it is normal (uh huh)...so anyway I ordered some Stanadyne...I am on my second tank full and have the same noise no change at all...Anyway here is what struck me as odd...My MPG went down 2 MPG..I thought this was supposed to "help" fuel milage not decrease it..And yes this is from hand calc and I drove the same route with same amount of traffic as normal...I went from 19mpg when new, by 5000 I was down to about 17 at 7000 I was 16 now I am at 8000 and am getting 15.2, this is starting to irritate me I thought it was supposed to get better as you got more miles....Is there another issue going on here?

Try changing your air filter. These Cummins engines need to breath.

My friends turck did the same thing and they replaced the #1 injector and everything was fine.
they told him at two other dealerships that it was "normal"

Does VA have winter fuel? When did you get your truck? Early last fall?

What I do to lessen the pinging is use a half bottle of PS and a half qt of 2 cycle motor oil...dump it in and fill the tank up.

I have already had 3 injectors replaced and it was quiet at first but after about 500 miles the noise returns like clockwork.

The standard answer from the Dealers about these ticks, knocks, pinging is that it is either normal or you have carbon buildup due to excessive idle times.
