P 0088

his is my first post here, but I read allot. I have learned a great deal here, and being a new diesel owner, this site has been a savior.

I have a 2003 2500 Cummins HO auto. 93000 miles

When I started my truck the other day, it was VERY loud and has an P 0088 code showing. What could this be? I am not driving it right now, until I figure out what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P0088 is fuel rail pressure too high. Very high rail pressure will make the engine rattle bad at idle.
Do you have a performance box on the truck?

Thank you for the reply. I do not have a box on my truck. Does the HI pressure hurt the truck? What could be causing the high pressure?

I had the same thing happen to my truck. Dealer said it was dirty fuel and a piece on the CP3 went bad. I had to pocket the expense. And yes high rail pressure is bad. It can take a toll on injectors. You should get in the shop.

I called my dealer a few minutes ago, and he said that it is probably the injector pump going bad. He said to bring it in and that they would fix it under warranty since it has less than 100,000 miles on it.

I could not believe he offered that information. I was really impressed. Hopefully, he will not change his mind once it is in. I am taking it in this evening. I will update this thread when I get it back.

I love my Dodge as well. You cannot beat the truck, especially for the price. I pull my boat and camper all the time, as well as a trailer (I ride Motocross) with bikes, and it is always a trouble free and comfortable ride. I had an F350 before this truck (V10) and my trips were always stressfull for some reason.

Sounds like a FCA that stuck open. Don't need a whole pump for that fix. Also, I wouldn't rev too high, rail pressure will shoot up to 26,000psi real quick and the limit valve will start dumping off pressure and eventually stick open(then you will have a no-start).

Depends on the dealer, whats wrong with the truck. I heard that you have to get the warranty transfered, not to sure. Like to know that also.

sorry to cross post, but this is what i stated in another thread. Any help is MUCH appreciated, my truck is my baby.

---

I took my '04.5 in today for a remote start/alarm/keyless entry install and when I got it back the CEL was on. I took it into Advance Auto and had them pull the codes (that way I had an actual printout). I'm getting the following codes:

P0088 Fuel Rail Pressure Too High
P0251 Injection Pump Fuel Valve Feedback

Evidently the installers ordered the wrong bypass module and hooked it up, then found out it was the wrong one. They seem to think that could have caused the codes to be thrown, but I don't know.

My truck has a 6-Gun Banks and has never throw a code in the 3 months I've had it. It's got just under 97k on it.

So... uhh did the installers screw something up or did it just happen that the CEL go out the same time?

thanks all

First one might be due to a fca, which you can remove. Here's a link.
