I drove down a road that was being freshly tarred. now I have specks of oil on my rig. whats the best way to get that off, seeing as water wont do the trick?

3M makes a 'bug & bar' remover in a non-aerosol can that I've seen at NAPA plus Griot's Garage - then there's an aerosol version in a tall blue can (can't remember the name but probably the same folks who make that smelly engine cleaner) that sez "Bug and Tar" on the front. Give them some time to dissolve the tar or bug jerky and don't rub hard since you may grind the hard bits into the paint.

lacquer thinner will take the road tar/oil off easily, but it strips the wax off too, so you'll need to re-wax that area.

I have also heard that WD-40 works well for removing these types of problems. As above probably also removes the wax so ...Give it a shot.

I would not use baby oil on any truck or car I plan on owning for any length of time.

I've never used that method, actually never heard of it. But what is the reason behind your statement, does it destroy paint?

WD40 or a little motor oil on a rag works just fine.

Bounce dryer sheets soaked in warm water. Also works great for bugs!

I have a friend who paints cars and he told me to never let baby oil get on the paint as it will cause a lot of problems if you ever need the car painted for any reason. Some car lot detailer's use baby oil on the rubber around windows to make it look nice for when you go to buy the car.
