NEWB Looking at an 06

Hey guys I'm new to the diesel world and I'm looking at getting a 2006 2500 4x4 auto. Is there any major problems with these trucks? I know Ford does the Oasis reports on there trucks does Dodge to anything similar? What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting?

Thanks for the help,

Kyle

I haven't had any major problems (now at 20K). A Sirius antenna went bad, and I got a code (check engine light) that was fixed with a software flash. The normal problems seem to be blend and recirc doors in the HVAC, occasional fuel injector problems, ball joints wearing out, etc. My truck is pretty much stock except for tires.

With the stock tires I was getting 16-19MPG. Haven't had the new ones long enough to see if there is a difference.

Make sure it blows air out all the vents. A/C blend doors back in the dash are known to malfunction.

Have the TSB performed to update the trailer wiring circuits to higher amperage.

Don't add a power programmer and abuse the tranny.

16-17mpg normal driving, 8-12mpg towing for me.

'06 have probably the best developed diesel engine going.

For my 06,

Seat cushions seem to be paper thin, the sheet metal also seems to dent pretty easy, though I am pretty sure the sheet metal on the big three are of the same thickness. I see about 10-11 MPG pulling, 15-16 MPG average. Air conditioning seems fairly weak, the trailer wiring module instead of fuses is problem waiting to happen. Ball joints premature failure seem to be a common theme in most Dodge trucks, not just the 06s.

However, the motor is awesome... Overall looks of the Dodge are better than the other 3 IMO. And it seems the Dodge's are easy to mod, and you get more out of the mods.

82k on my '06 auto, no problems.
The A/C is alittle weak, once you've been rolling for 10 minutes on the hiway its ok.
I get 13-14 towing a 5k cargo (keep it under 2k rpm).
It's a good truck. BTW you can easily put a 2" piece of foam under the existing seat cusion and it becomes a nice seat.
Nothing is perfect, you'll find good and bad with any truck, I don't think you can beat the cummins 5.9 in the engine dept.

Had my 06 for close to 40k and it runs like a champ. Blend door was replaced under warranty. Other than that, I haven't had any problems.
