New to me 06 3500 SRW!

Hello all, I'm now the proud owner of a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab Long Bed SRW 4x4 6-speed CTD! It just turned over 44,000 miles....as of last Thursday and I've been reading as much as I can on 3rd gens since.

I've owned several CTDs (see sig) and I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of 1st and 2nd gens. This 3rd gen stuff however, is new to me. So I need to get back to the basics on this one.

Stuff like lift pump fuel pressure and reliability...I'm guessing this year has an in tank design?, injector reliability?, CP3 reliability? and what is the rail pressure supposed to be? , overall engine reliability? What are the normal issues?

What about issues with the truck? I've already removed the recirculation door cause it caused some huge hurricane vibration in the dash + it barely blew any air. Any thing else I should be aware of?

Whats this I hear about TIPM going bad out of the blue?
Also Very Important can someone get me the diagram under the TIPM cap of what each fuse is for? Just a pic will do, mine seems to be missing it, the cap just has numbers molded in and it says to reference the owners manual, and go figure the owners manual says to look under the cap. Anyways could someone help me out with that?

I plan on getting guages in the near future. EGT, Boost, rail pressure and fuel pressure.....then a smarty.
Any and all help or just basics would be greatly appriciated.

Congratulations Andy!! You will really enjoy your new truck. I will tell you one thing to check that may keep you from being stranded like I was. Check the #4 fuel delivery line ( from the rail to the cylinder) and make sure the blue isolator is on it. Failure is not uncommon on these lines. Check my post, I took some pics of old line, new one with part # etc. I see you got the G-56 - good luck with your new CTD

Andy

The fuses should be lined out in a diagram in the owners manual. Mine shows what each fuse is....

If you need a PDF copy of the manual I have one, can get it to you in the morning.

What page? I may have missed it. My build date is July 22, 2005 so my manual may not have some of the revisions that the newer ones have.

Also on a side note July 22, 2005 was a friday so I may run into more trouble with this truck than some.

I must have an earlier version, mine shows the end of the maintenance schedules and the beginning of the "If you need consumer assistance" section.

A pdf would be great! I'll pm you my email.

appriciate it.

I really like my 06, zero problems since becoming 2nd owner. I've changed all the fluids/filters, new rotors/pads all around, added gauges, had several oil tests done all came back perfect, recently just replaced the bj's/ujoints/1pc driveshaft due to shutter/vibes, its even better now, especially when you do the work yourself! Rolling 100k so I just picked up a smarty, can't wait to try it out. Need a free flow muffler soon too.

I miss my 94 some days though. Nothing like the 12v sound.

Appreciate gents. So far this truck is really nice, its way quieter than my '98 and its like Im in a gas truck every time I start it haha. So I guess I'll see how this thing does.

Nice truck, like the long bed. Needs some 285/75/17 tires.

If the headlights and tail lights aren't as bright as they use to be get the 3M headlight polishing kit. Just did it on my Honda that is about the same age as your truck and was suprised how much nicer they look. Will be doing my Truck in the next year or so.

There is only a few issues to be aware of.
1) #4 injector line isolator, as someone mentioned. I just go over all the isolators, at every oil change.

2) At 44k miles, it probably had the trans low speed shudder recall done.

3) There is a short silver coolant hose under the exhaust manifold. This is known to leak. There was a recall with PN's, spring hose clamps, and silicone hose. Since I have tightened mine, it has not leaked.

4) The TIPM does not fail randomly. It is an issue if you tow trailers that have questionable wiring. Instead of fuses, they have electronic circuit limiter that have to be reset at the dealer. After about 5 resets, the TIPM has to be replaced.

Mods:
1) If you have the Jacobs exhaust brake, beware of the vacuum pump. THey have a tendency to fail. If you don't have an exhaust brake, I would invest in a pacbrake. I like the design better than jacobs. You'll get more effective low speed braking.

2) I would invest in a fuel tank vent relocation kit. It allows you to fast fill the tank, and get another 3-4 gallons of capacity for ~$40 Example: Before the mod, it took me ~20 minutes to fill the tank and the final 4+ gallons. Now it takes me <10 minutes to fill 36+ usable gallons, on a tank "rated" for 35 gallons!
