I agree completely. I learned long ago to always have the parts and labor supplied by the biz you frequent. The owner's manual directs the individual to make some spares which he of course is responsible for. If the fob setup didn't feel like a Quarter Pounder w/Cheese in my pocket I'd be using it daily.

In the mechanics trade there is a saying: Customer supplied parts = Customer supplied headaches.

My key came in and I went to the dealer to pick it up and get it programmed. Total cost with sales tax was $131.73. The parts person snuck my truck in the side door and had the mechanic program it without having to bring it through the service department. I've been dealing with this dealership a long time and they are very good to me. That saved me $45.00.

I asked the parts person about the e-bay keys and he just shook his head. He said that there are two sources of chipped keys that drive him crazy; one is ebay and the other is AutoZone, Pepboys, etc. when they try to install aftermarket car starters that require additional key programming. He said that they have stopped accepting all chipped keys and only work with the MOPAR replacements.

In any case I now have my spare and I will make sure that I take MUCH better care of it this time!!!

I went to a locksmith and got two chipped keys cut for $25 each. If you have two chipped keys programed already you can program them your self. He gave me the instructions on how to do it and it worked. This was for my 2003.

Put me in the successful ebay chipped key club. No issues at all. Locksmith who cut the key seemed a little perturbed that I didn't need him to program it for me too.

My BD/GT indicates a key code. No MIL and no operational issues. Erased code and it comes right back, hard code. Well, back to the dealer to have them unscrew whatever they did to cause a code
