Need 5th Wheel Hitch for 2007 Mega Cab Suggestions

So I have some ideas on where to place my brake controller now.

Next, I think I will go with the Reese 16k slider. I have an extended pin on my 2002 Wildcat by Forest River so I think most of the time I will be ok so I don't want the more expensive hitches.

What do I need to know about installing this hitch? I will install it myself. I installed a 15k Reese in my 2000 and 2002 trucks so I have some idea of the work involved.

Any special mounting brackets or tips to make installation easier?

Thanks

Use the bolt-on install kit specifically for your truck and you should be good to go. Take your time, measure twice and drill once, blah, blah blah..... Good luck!

Get the hitch in my signature, then you won't ever have to say "I wish I had gotten the other one!!"

I have the sliding Reese 16k hitch and a short box. also have a 2004 Forest River Wildcat. You can still make a pretty tight turn w/o having to slide the hitch but for those tight 90's you will need to slide it. Haven't had a problem yet and have driven about 5,000 miles since Aug '06 with the trailer. The Pullrite is a good hitch also, auto sliding and all but from what I've seen and heard it's also dang heavy. It'll take a couple of strong backs to lift it in and out.

Not that it matters, but I did the B&W Turnover Ball with Companion 5th Wheel then will be putting the 5th Airborne Sidewinder on the coach (when I get it). All together it's about the price as a 16k SuperGlide but I'll have 18k 5th wheel capacity and a 30k gooseneck hitch if needed. Something to think about...

The above is true. But the hitch can come out in four pieces. For the heaviest piece, which is the slider mechanism, I set up two tall saw horses behind the truck and lay two 2x4's across them and slide the ends of the 2x4's under the slider, lifting one side at a time. Than I just push the slider mechanism along the 2x4's until it is sitting on top of the saw horses. To re-install, I back the truck under the 2x4's and reverse the process.

If a 64 year old weakling can do it, anybody can do it

Yeah, there are a couple of creative ways. My father used an A-frame and a pulley to unload a 12k Pullrite he had picked up for a friend.

BTW, anybody interested in a 12K Pullrite? It's down in South FL .

I like the B&W. Friend has the Reese and likes it. Don't know about the install. B&W was easy. Gooseneck rated up to 30,000 lbs.

I have the pullrite,, IMHO it is the best hitch out there period. I would never ever go with a reese again. I gave mine away to my daughter and her husband, and now they hate it too. With a shortbox, the pullrite is the only way to go.
