Motor driven on board air

I am looking at getting on board air but want to be able to run air tools off of it so i am looking for a motor driven compressor. Anyone know of a kit for third gens? If I have to I will piece it together but I would rather just purchase a kit with all of the pieces to make it easier. Would a semi compressor work on our trucks if I fabed up a bracket to mount it where the second CP3 is always placed? I have been looking for a little while but I keep finding the cheap electric one's that can not air up a tire without having to wait to let the pump catch up.

Thanks in advance

compressors on a Semi are gear driven, you would have to fab some sort of pully system. I know that on the jeep side (rock crawling forums) people have used a/c compressors to do this. I know of a guy here in town that has one on his jeep and it does the job on the trail. i have heard there are companies that use a/c compressor style pumps. check this link out

Semi-Trucks typically use a gear driven compressor (actually mated up behind the fuel pump). BUT they often use belt driven York compresors for their AC systems. These are the units you want because they are internally lubricated with oil, not like other ones that use the freon as a lubricant.

You could make a setup yourself, or simply buy a kit from Kilby Enterprises that has everything you need.

The kit is cheaper from Kilby direct, but I belive you have to call them directl to purchase it.

Holy crap, those are insane! Says they will run TWO jackhammers and have been used for shop air in a pinch.

Wow.

most service trucks come equipped with those compressors now, and yes, they do work as advertised.

Very few breakdowns as well, treat them right, service them at the proper times, and feed them clean air, they'll outlast the truck they are mounted in.

I have seen a couple of them used as shop air, when the big screw went down, and they don't provide the HUGE cfm, but they'll do.

Looks like I need to save some money before I can afford any of these kits, but I was expecting that. Thanks for the replies and when I get a kit I will be sure to post up pictures of the install and how I like it. I really like that they make the kit without me having to piece together a kit, an be able to run air tools off of them without a problem is great.

I haven't thought about putting one on my CTD but I do have a motor driven York setup on my Jeep and can fill up a 33" tire from 8 psi to 30 psi in about 30-35 seconds. I have a 2.5 gallon tank and run impact wrenchs off of it all of the time.

I like the portability of it. I can move it from my truck to my jeep when we head out on a ride.

unless you are stuck on an engine mounted compressor i would get this...

i have installed one with a set of k5la horns and a 16 gallon tank, the compressor doesnt even sweat them. you can run a 1/2" impact off the compressor alone (no tank)! they are awesome compressors and have great customer support.
