More Amsoil

Is it cool to go 10k mi between oil changes with Amsoil oil and filter? I know what the specs say and the mechanics tell me I'm an idiot if I spend that kind of money and don't go at least 8k between oil changes. I really just want you guys opinions. Thanks in advance

Frank

I went 8k between my last oil change. I will probably run 8 again and get the oil sampled, then go a couple more. Not ever going over 10k......oil is to cheap.

I have gone 8k with my last 3 oil changes using AMSOIL and about 3k from my next. I agree, for what it costs to do an oil change, I wouldn't go 10k either.

First, I am an avid AMSOIL user so don't get me wrong. BUT, Amsoil oil filters are NOT on the Chrysler/Cummins approved list. If anything engine related goes wrong they will and have blamed it on an unapproved filter. Just food for thought. Another idea, over on TDR a buddy of mine put the new CJ oils to the test, he ran 22,000 miles with samples every 5,000 on the CJ rotella T 15/40. It is 9.00 a gallon in comparison. No problems, and samples came back perfect. Another gou over there has been running the AMSOIL 15/40 Synthetic for 60,000 miles with filter changes and UOA's.. Still looking good!

Good to know! I am still going to use AMSOIL, but I will make sure to use an approved filter. Do you have any recommendations with the use of AMSOIL? Also, how do you like the AMSOIL ATF? Can you see as big of a difference in the fluid temp as they claim?

You'll need a sponser to get you started. I use "Amsoilman" on this site. Once registered and paying a nominal fee, you'll buy products @ wholesale price. He'll send you a catalog or recommend a product to you. I'm switching out my fluids in the tranny and transfer case this weekend. Severe Gear going in the diffs@ 15,000.

I have a 10 year preferred membership with AMSOIL, however, I did not know that their oil filters would not be covered by chrysler if something did happen. I will ask "Amsoilman" what filter he recommends. Let me know how the tranny fluid works. I am planning on using AMSOIL ATF next tranny fluid change. Thanks

I'd say go at least 10K.
Danderson, get an extra quart, the pump can't get all of the oil out of the containers and then there is still some left in the pump, among other issues with pumping into a little hole.

Thanks guys, I guess I'd better check into the filter thing before I get too much further. I also plan on going all Amsoil in tranny and diffs in the future. So this doesn't sound too bad...is there any bad news out there other than the approved filter list?

Yeah, the heart attack that someone who works at an oil change facility will get when you say that you have been more than double the miles that they suggest between oil changes.

I actually go anywhere between 12 and 15,000 miles on my oil change with Amsoil and their filter. But before yall call me crazy I do have an additive mixture in added to the oil to help with this. It was one given to me by the guy that taught me how to build racing engines and i figured i would try it in mu Cummins and it turns out that it LOVES it. Of course i have sent off oil samples for testing to confirm the life on the oil and how well it is doing, and so far no problems. So normally it would cost what around $40-$50 dollars to use either Rotella or Valvoline Blue oil and filter and do it myself or nearly $75-$90 at a quick lube type place to only last me 5,000-8,000 miles. Well right now doing it myself I spend around lets say $80-$100 each time but go two or even three times as long as i could with the other stuff at the same mileage. Well you dont have to be a genius to figure that one out.
