Maintenance
I have an '05 2500 with 55,000 miles, since it was new its be serviced by the dealer. I'am thinking of doing some maitenanance myself, I can do the Oil Change, Air Filter. But someone told me that the Fuel Filter is hard, do you have to prime the pump to restart the engine? How hard is it to change the Diff. Grease, is it just a drain plug or does the cover have to come off. How about the Water Filter?

Fuel filter is easy. just turn the key to run without starting wait till the pump shuts off /reapeat a couple times then it should fire right up. You could always just fill the canister up with some injector cleaner. That way its primed and your tips get a good cleaning.

There is no water filter.
The fuel filter is easier than doing an oil change... Mark the housing and lid so you know where to tighten it down to so you don't over tighten it. You don't have to prime it just click the key on/off a few times to let it prime.
Diff covers have to come off.... Or if you want to do it the easy way you can just get a gun that will suck it out.
Hope that helps you.

Here is a handy link for first time stock fuel filter changers.
As far as the diffs....they are pretty straightforward. Remove the cover bolts and let the fluid drain. Wipe around inside if you want, and maybe spray some brake cleaner and wipe. Then replace the cover but DO NOT overtighten the bolts. Snug is fine. Fill to just below the refill point with your choice of Synthetic 75w90 GL-5 rated Gear oil. Personally, I use Mobil 1 75w90 with great results. Some guys have added aftermarket diff covers like Mag-Hytec or PML to add extra capacity to your fluid...and for sharp looks and easier draining for next time. Good luck!

Is it true that the AAM axles do not require any RTV to seal up the diff covers and they have a re-usable gasket?

Diff. Grease
So you are saying is put a pan under Diff and unbolt the cover, drain the old grease. Put FACTORY COVER back on, using the OLD GASKET. Refill it with new grease. SO ITS THAT EZ and I CAN REUSE THE OLD GASKET with the FACTORY COVER.

Yes it is that easy. I was concerned the first time I did it too. I had never done it before this truck. It so easy, it's almost silly. There sure isn't any reason to go to a dealer and pay them alot of $$$$ to do it.

Does it require an anti slip additive or is it ok to use a 80-90 GL5? I used mopars additive in my 1500 and 75-140 synthetic. The 1500 is a pain since you have to use RTV on the cover to make a gasket and I'm a perfectionist and couldn't get it on the axle !

You do not use anti-slip additive with the AAM axles. Alot of guys think you do because they had 2nd gens and they use them with the Dana Axles.
The 75w140 weight oil is correct for the half-tons. Our trucks use 75w90 weight.........but im sure other weights are fine too.
These trucks come with a reuseable gasket. No RTV necessary.

Great, I hated having to add that stuff every 15K miles which required a complete drain and refill. Argg, smelled like rearend grease for a couple days!
Anyway, non synthetic or synthetic?
What's the change intervals with either?

Synthetic 75w90 GL-5 rated gear lube. Any brand is fine.
Owner's manual says every 15k. I think you should do the first change at 15k or preferably before....after that....up to you.
I do mine every 20k and that is probably overkill.
