Luvin The Cummins
This last week was my longest tow yet. We drove up to Reno, Nv for the Oldsmobile Club national meet. We took U.S. 395 due to the fact that we were not in a hurry and I know it's a beautiful drive but I was also wondering at just how well my truck would handle the passes on that road. We hooked up my buddy's '65 Cutlass that he's owned sice 1971, set the Smarty Sr on 1 and off we went.
Since I wasn't too sure about the fuel range, we topped off in Bishop and it took just 14 miles and averaged 16.9 mpg
but the climbing was coming.
Starting at 4000' and going up over 8000'. Up we went, 60 mph, still on o/d with the a/c blasting as it was near 100* out, blowing by other vehicles on the hills, truck didn't even sound like it was working very hard, fan never kicked on, temp was a tick over 210. Got stuck in traffic 70 miles south of Reno due to a fatal wreck that had us stopped for over an hour
Got to Reno and topped off. 14.4 mpg
Better than I expected!
Did the car show thing, saw over 300 Oldsmobiles, took home 2nd place
and decided to run from Reno to LA without stopping for fuel. Almost made it but got stuck at a train crossing in Mojave where the train decided to block the only n/s road in the area for over 30 minutes. Made it home and still had a little over 1/4 left. Topped off, 16.3 mpg!!
Overall, 1100 miles driven, a great week of vacation, truck was great, the '65 took an award, I got 3 more payments left on my truck and we were all happy! Did I mention that I love my truck??

Big horn 06,
Congrats on the "count-down"...good to know she's still running strong. I know the wife and I were looking at the fact that I have 7 payments left on mine. She promptly reminded me that the "extra money" would not be going directly into an upgrade fund!
However, tranny upgrade is on the list FOR SURE!
