Loud noise and Bump when A/C turns on

Hey all,
When I don't run my A/C for a few days, and then turn it on there is a loud thumping noise and you can feel a bump. Does this mean I have a bad Compressor?
thanks Jamie

If I turn mine on while on the highway, I feel and hear it. But I don't feel or hear it cycling on and off when it's running. I bet it's nothing if it's like mine.

Weird that you would post this today because mine did it today as well. Besides turning on the A/C last month when I bought her I had not used the A/C until today. Hit the button and it made a very loud thump that I felt in the cab. Didn't do it again all day though. Glad to hear that others have experienced it.

So far, this is the only concern I've had with mine, scared the crap out of me the first few times. I'm used to it now, but any riders always give me that "o'crap look" every time it does it. I killed the peoples next door cat last year with my gasser during a cold spell, the first time I heard it with this truck I thought "not again, wheres the boys little dog ?" funny>..

Mine does it too, but maybe it's because it's a HEMI. I've also got the "Hemi Tick" that makes it sound like a Cummins. (just not the power or smell of a Cummins)

If it really bothers you, there is a TSB for it. However beware there are other items tagged onto the TSB

If your compressor is not used for a period of time the oil in the compressor settles, therefore when started up, (it takes more to pump the oil settled than just 134A mixed) the clutch has more force to push instantly, making a loud noise. After the 134A mixes with the oil again, it will be fine (at least until you let it sit for a while again). This will cause no harm to the compressor.
