i need cruise control

Hi all, I want to put cruise control on my truck. Does anybody know if factory cruise can be installed on a cab & chassis truck that didn't come with it from the factory. I went to the dealership yesterday and talked to them and the parts lady said she doesn't even show it in her system and it cant be done. I told her that I found the the steering wheel switches on dodge parts.com. I wonder if I buy the switches and put them on can they enable it with star scan.
Please help, thanks

I seem to remember a thread where someone just installed the switches and it worked, on a manual transmission.

With an auto, I think it might be more complicated.

I bought the switches from the dealer for around $35.00 and they told me there was no way that it would work. Installed them on an 04.5 six speed and they work great to this day!!

You tend to get use to that after a while.. Are you stick or auto? Check into high idle enable as well...

My dealer wanted $350 for cruise. I bought the switches off E-Bay and installed them in under 10 minutes, while wearing a suit, on my way to a wedding!

Pop the little covers off your steering wheel and see if there are wires under. If yes, spend the $30 and take a chance. They just pop right in.

Best cruise control I ever had on any vehicle I've ever owned BTW!

Screws are in the back of the wheel. Pop off the covers and look for the wires. If they are there, order the switches and drop em in. REALLY easy. If they don't work, then you have to go to the dealer and have the cruise turned on in the computer.
The hard part is telling the dealer that you disconnected the batteries and now the cruise doesn't work. "Can you try reflashing my truck? I heard that they default to no cruise or something." Or send the wife up there and have her tell a sob story about how she ran the battery down and now the cruise dosen't work. Sniffle sniffle. "He'll be so mad when he gets home and finds out that I broke his truck."
Really, it's just a switch in the program. 5 minutes with the starscan and done.
I read that most of the trucks are programmed with it turned on from the factory. But each ECM is programmed on the line per truck spec. So only one way to find out. I ordered the switches and they worked. Took longer to get the screwdriver out and open the boxes.
