Anybody got any experience with aftermarket cruise control? Need one...

As the title states, I need cruise control, especially with the long trips coming in my near future here...anybody know of a good one and where to get it? Who's used what and what does/doesn't work? Thanks,

Brian

My truck had an aftermarket electric system on it when I bought it. It sucked. The thing would get confused by the turbo lag, so it would give a lot of throttle, the turbo would spool up, and then the truck would take off so it would release the throttle. After about a half mile you felt kinda queasy. One of the first things I did was rip it out.

A simple real low-tech approach to the problem , you could add a vernier adjust throttle cable to the pump, After you got to the speed, you simply pull the **** and lock the position.
It is the cable you usually use for PTO speed control. The down side is there is no brake release.

Same here. I bought one when I first got my pickup. It was an Audiovox and it did the same thing. There was a bunch of different settings to mess with, and you could get most of the throttle on/off bucking to go away, but you couldnt get all of it. It has since been retired. There might be a better one available now. Maybe someone has tried one and can give you some more imput. You could go to a wrecking yard and get all of the stuff off of a wreck and put it on.

Did your truck not come equipped with one to begin with? or are you replacing it? or wanting to install one since one has not been installed originally?
If you're replacing one, then go to the dealer and order the part(s). Best system in my opinion.
I wouldn't think twice about putting an aftermarket unit on these trucks.

Would one off a gasser work or does it have to be from a CTD? There are NO CTD in any boneyard around here... guess they just don't die

When I bought the truck it had no options. I'm in the process of putting a/c on, got everything but the compressor, and the wire harness that hooks onto the back of the heater control panel itself. Truck didn't have cruise either, and for the driving I do, and plan on driving cross country here before too long, and making several long trips, I'd really like to have cruise. I dunno what would be the easiest, figured somebody made a good aftermarket one. Don't really know much about it right now, that's why I'm posting here. Thanks for all the help!
