High idle; automatic and manually set?

I was going to ask this in "Imagine my suprise..." thread, but figured I would ask this seperate. Does anyone know if once my truck is reflashed to allow me to high idle, does the ECM loose the ability for it to high-idle itself? Is it one or the other, or both after reflashing?

no- you will have both. the automatic high idle comes on when the temp hits a certain temp and the engine is cold. the high idle feature enabled at the dealer allows you to set it through your cruise control buttons whenever you want. also- you don't get the high idle feature enabled (perse) by having the tsb done (i learned that my first time) you have to request it when you have the tsb done. the tech has to hit a few additonal buttons on his scan tool.

Thanks. It's going in tomorrow for something else, so I will have the high idle done also then.

hey- alittle insurance for you. many of us have had a hard time with the dealers not knowing their head from their butt on this issue. you may want to go over to genosgarage.com and access his page on tsb's and print out the high idle procedure and bring it with you. that is what i needed to do! might save you a headache!!

Thanks agian, I just printed out TSB 18-004-04 for them to reference the procedure.

Also use the TSB for "How to enable" only. Your truck dosen't require a flash and that is where I had problems with the dealer. He correctly told me that my truck couldn't be re-flashed for this, it was too new. BUT it only needed to have it enabled as it's already in your ECM. Geno's has the instructions for doing it. If your service manager dosen't want to do it or tells you it can't be done see if you can ask the mechanic. Give him the detail on how to do it (it only takes 1-2 minutes including plugging in the scan tool) and he might love you for it if he dosen't know about it. I tipped the mechanic a few bucks for doing mine after the service manager said it couldn't be done.
