Help with HotShot (heated wiper fld)

Anyone here put one of these on their 3Gen? Looking to get ideas on where you mounted the heating unit. The firewall behind the engine doesnt offer much at all. Also where did you tee into the fluid lines? Open to suggestions by those who have done this......thanks

Save the money and put a cap full of methanol into your washer fluid. It's a little harder on the wiper rubbers, but less hassle. JMHO. Most of us don't run those things even up here or farther North.

JMHO.

Festus...thanks for the reply. But the unit is not meant to keep the fluid from freezing. Its to help clear the windshield of ice and the build up on the wipers. Already have tired and used de-icer fluid in the wiper mix. The company that makes this unit ( Micro ) supplies this to GM for many of their cars as a standard item.

I could see how this would be very useful - to me at least. When pushing snow all day, the ice & snow starts to build up on the wipers. If the fluid were heated a little, it would stop this from happening.

As for the mounting location, I haven't actually seen one, so could you mount it on the wheel well? Maybe even cable tie it to some of the other hoses? Just a couple of ideas.

Carcrz....yep, it heats the fluid to about 150F, and no it doesnt crack the windshield. GM has tested it extensively and includes the system on many of its cars as standard. Great way to defrost the windshield of ice in the early AM instead of struggling with a scrapper or repeatedly slap the windshild wipers free of ice. I know Geno's sells this item but I got a decent price on it at $109.95 including shipping. Now just was looking for someone who already put one in their rig. I opened the hood and stared at the firewall and realized for the first time how crowded it is already. Hope to get this installed in the next week. The instructions give a guide which tells you that the unit has to be mounted pretty much straight up, no angles or lying down. It needs (or prefer) to be mounted on sheetmetal.

You might be able to take some angle iron & make some mounting points just below the cowl.

I mounted my unit on the pasenger side about 10 inches in from the inside of the fender just under were the hood seals to the cowl. If my memory serves me right there is a spot welded lip were I used self tapping screws to mount the bracket of the hotshot. It makes NO contact with the hood. This also made connecting the plumbing easy because the washer hoses are right there. That was a year or so ago I even left all the positive wire rolled cause I wanted to be sure it would clear everything before cutting it to size. Glad I read this I want to cut the size down.
