Some models of 2500 don't have the HO Cummins. More towing cap. in the 3500 and more power

I do believe the 36 gal tank is only availabel as an option on the 2500 but comes by default on the 3500.

nope, 34gal is for short box, 36gal is for long box, don't matter if it's a 2500 or 3500.
By the way welcome to the site

Front springs are the same unless you order the snow package. Every thing is the same except the 3500 has one more leaf that cost about $990.00. Buddy just got an 06 with the 5.9LCTD. He bought a 2500 and added the spring at the dealer. They charged him $990.00. DOT my have something to say, you better have your weight upgraded if it's important.

Sorry to say, he got ripped off but he did. I had the springs in both my 04 2500 QC Hemi and now in my 06 2500 Mega CTD re-packed with an additional 2" of lift and that increased my capcity by over 1200lbs. It cost me $350.00?each truck at Bostick, our local heavy duty truck dealership/repair shop. It road hard empty any way so I didn't really notice much of a change in the ride empty, but the additional load capacity is great. I have yet to hook up any trailer that "sacs" it out as of yet either.

Hmmm. no difference in the front axle???? Seems like a waste to buy the 3500 srw unless you need that little extra load capacity.

He bought a 2500 because it was easier to find with the 5.9. He originally looked for a 3500.

Well Mega Cop, you were right. My friend had to pay a little less than $400.00 for the extra leafs with installation. The 990 he thought was the price was actually the additional payload. It was still much easier to find a 2500 over a 3500.

So a 2500 with the extra springs is actually a single wheel one ton? I have the extra springs and I have also seen some 2500's without them. They are also missing the sway bar under the axle housing that I have.

The 2500 uses a Dana 70 and a 3500 uses a Dana 80. Obviously they are diffrent, but itsn't it just the hub on the end and the overall length? I heard the newer models don't have Dana's anymore.

On the 3rd gens, the 3500 & 2500 (I believe) with the CTD have 11.5 AAM axles. Now in 03 when they offered a SO & HO version of the CTD, I believe the SO version came with the 10.5 AAM rear axle. In my 00 2500, I had the camper package (included the extra overload springs in the rear) and the Dana 80. It was a 6-speed also but I believe the Dana 80 was an option for the 2500 during the 2nd gen series. Either way, when they went to a single wheel 3500 option in 03, things changed from the previous generation. Now I'm confusing myself . Darn, I wish I got a single wheel 3500 when I got the dually. Tires are soooo limited plus my wife won't drive the thing...which may be a good thing!

My 3500 was $300 more than the 2500, and has the extra load capacity, extra rear helper spring, and clearance lights.
I'm also just a little bit cooler when I pull up next to a 2500 at the light (just ribbin)

Same here, plus in BC the 1 ton's get a bit of a tax break...
