In some states it cost more to register a 3500.

2007s may have more differences, but for 2006, with same options/equipment 2500 vs 3500 the only difference is the extra helper leaf, the extra weight rating, about $200 (the 3500 comes std with the CTD and some other tid bits, forged wheels perhaps, that are extra cost on the 2500) and in most states a heaftier reg fee, and in some states don't bother with the local town office, you need to go directly to a state office for anything over 8000 lbs. You can buy a 2500 for much less than a 3500 if you don't want the CDT, but the HD chassis, frame and body are idendical otherwise.

Front springs are the same on 2500 and 3500 unless one has the plow package and the other don't .

The 2500 and 3500 SRW's are supposed to have the same rear brakes. The 3500 dually has different pistons in the calipers on the rear brakes and perhaps (probably) different calipers as well. The piston size on the srw's is 45 mm's each (2 per caliper) and the drw's are 51mm's each. Doesn't seem like much but computes out to 28.4% clamping force increase on the pads on the rear wheels of a drw, assuming all else is the same. I got this info from the 06 Dodge Ram service manual I downloaded. (would you believe 9267 pages?)

I bought a 2006 3500 specifically for the GVWR. 900lbs doesn't sound like much but I find it hard to believe that most 2500's can pull a big 5th wheel with in the limits set by Dodge "legally". (I don't mean safely since I think they are under-rated)
Just worried if I had an accident a lawyer would figure I was overweight GVWR from manufactors specs. and take me too the cleaners.

My 2 cents

I would never buy a 2500. For virtually the same price you can get a 3500.

You can tell a 3500 by the dually, everything else is just a big 2500.

Honestly speaking I'd wished I got a 3500, being about that they would have cost the same. Not that I need a 2500 let alone a 3500.

I don't know, I just want to look cool pulling my two little jets ski's. With the regards to a diesel, my first was a VW jettta TDI and loved it. Sold it for a '00 Dodge diesel and never looked back.
