Cool Haunted Truck? wild lamp out activity..

long run of 600 miles on a 04 early 4x4CTD one ton short box single rear wheels, 92,000 on it. no mods that would make a difference.

lamp out light went on with the audible 'ding'. then like a code 1-4-2-2 dings in a series.
stopped truck, checked all lights every one working. back in truck no indicator. at about 30 mph , it's starts doing it again, whole sequence.
owner's manual had nothing on it. maybe vibration activated.

on and off again for four more hours till we wanted to rip it out ourselves...

resetting fuse didn't work. going through the light switches and signal lamps didn't either. won't do it at initial start up, audibles stop after four series as above. any restarts , then it will only audible once but lamp stays lit.

dealer is typical ' can't fix what i can't see' ........he never saw that before.

this happen to anyone else? maybe water short or something?

no emergency , just irritating....

Is the audible the same "series" every time it comes on. They sometimes act weird and come on and off goofy when there is a bulb about to go out. Check the elements in your bulbs and look for one that doesnt look right, chances are it is about to go bad.

maybe try this

I had a horrible experiance with light out bell warning whatever thingy.
After checking everything i could it hit me. the one thing i didn't check. License plate light. It seemed one of the bulbs was not in all the way. firmed it up and it never happened again.

I found this website and have read after i tortured myself it might be somekind of common thing for the 03's but i don't know about the 04's. Give it a shot as it only takes a few seconds. Good luck cause i'm allmost back to normal from my experiance.

Was your license plate light not working when you firmed it up?

I have the exact same situation. Last few weeks Lamp Out is on and seems that all the lights are working. I did not check the 3rd brake light. I will check that tomorrow.

Light allways seemed on could not ever see it out. Might have been while driving vibrations and potholes just enough to wiggle it and not make full contact.
Like i said it was the only thing that i did and it stopped chimming

I feel your pain; had the same thing happen on a 350 mile trip back in August; drove me nuckin futs. Like the others said, check your bulbs. I did a search on here and the census said to check em all in the rear. Some folks even had to replace the boards in the rear taillight assemblies; as for me, I did have a license plate bulb out, but that wasn't the end of it. I ended up changing all the bulbs in the taillights; seems a couple had some build up on the brass fittings at the connection point and changing them out did the trick. Good luck.

It's your tail light relay. It drove me NUTS on my O3. Good ole dodge replacing fuses with these relays. You can get one fairly cheep (<$125) from the dealer and install yourself.

It is likely your tail lights. Pull them and look closely at the connection part of the lamps. You may see slight melting or burn evidence. Replace them with lamps that have glass at the connection end instead of plastic.

I went through a couple of weeks before I got it figured out.

I'd check all your connections and then do what this guy says....

As 2003RAM said, check your tail lamps...Pull them and look for a melted terminal area. Very common, and as he said make sure you replace with glass base bulbs, they have larger terminals and won't melt, also take some emery cloth and sand the female contacts to clean them up a bit.
