Factory decks, interchange?
Factory decks, interchange?
I have the infinity stereo with a single disc cd player and cassette player. My cousin has the single cd unit that is Sirius ready, but his truck does not have the infinity system. My question is, can I install his head unit in my truck and have the infinty still work? I guess another way of putting it is, will his unit have all the connections that mine does?
Yes it will work, you just have to get the proper aftermarket wiring harness to adapt the aftermarket stereo to the factory wiring. Plus to get the infinity system to work, you have to hook up a wire called a remote wire to tell the factory amp to turn on. If you don't hook up that wire, you won't be able to get any sound out of it.
Check in the 3rd gen peformance access. threads, I just posted some info on this same subject if you want to read it.

Thanks for the reply GL, but I should have been more specific. My cousin replaced his factory Sirius ready deck with an aftermarket unit. I was wanting to use his factory Sirius ready deck in my truck, but since his didn't come with the infinity package and mine did, I wasn't sure if it would work. I don't want to lose the sound and bass that I currently have by installing his deck.
I would be more concerned about losing the use of some of your speakers. The Infinity system has more speakers than the standard 4 speaker stereo. Now if the Sirius system had 6 speakers than you should be in good shape. Let me know about this though. Because I would like to do the same with mine. I have a connection to get factory radios very cheap and would like satellite radio.
Flyinhigh, those are basically the same concerns that I have. That it won't be compatible with the infinity, which my truck has and his doesn't. I should see my cousin opening weekend of deer season, so I'll try and get it from him then. Like Gotlift said, I guess I could just throw it in there and see what happens. I'll post in a couple of weeks when I find out, or if somebody else already knows, please post.
The Infinity sound system is an power amp an extra speakers but the normal radios connector that feeds regular speakers in a non Infinity system is connected to the input of the power amp and it is connected to the speakers. The radio and power amp use one of the trucks data system to talk to each other and also let other system in the truck know what is installed.

Artie, I'm not sure, but the way I'm understanding your post is that it will work with my Infinity. Gerry, thanks for the tip, I was not aware there was an external reciever that I needed for the Sirius.
that box is the satty receiver,
the decks will plug an play.
the "infinity system" is just a cheap booster (like we had in high school) and it does all the processing in there, (to drive the center speaker?)
the decks all provide a speaker level output, and the infinity amp just boosts that signal.
your "infinity" deck can be sold on e-bay as a basic Chrysler radio for ~$100 or so,
i put one of the Cd/Cass units in my jeep wrangler to listen to sermons on tape, easy cheesy, plug n play.

04, thats exactly what I wanted to know and I think what Artie was saying. I eventually would like to get Sirius service, but use factory available components. Anybody know if I'll need anything else other than the reciever that goes under the passenger seat. Like any other antennas or wiring, etc...
P.S. Thanks for all the help guys, truly appreciated.

The Sirius comes in two kits the first being the tuner and antenna.
The second kit is the vehicle specific installation kit, it includes mounting hardware for the tuner and the antenna extension cables and the drilling template showing where to drill the hole in the cab roof so the antenna can be installed over and wiring run thru it.
