Engine noise?

I'm new to diesel trucks, so I've been reading alot on this website for the last two months. I do aprreciate all the info that everyone gives so freely.

I did what everyone suggests and replaced the air filter and installed this thing called a torque tube. I also installed a muffler elimination kit. Now when I drive I get this really loud whistling noise from my truck and everyone stares at me when I drive. My truck kind of sounds like a tractor trailer.

I'm dropping the truck off at the dealer Monday for it's first oil change, reflash, the door seals.

Should I ask them to check that whistling noise so people dont stare at me anymore?

I got 14.5 mpg 40% hwy 60% around town last tankful. The truck has 3300 miles on it. I'm hoping for 22mpg hwy after installing a camper top and the reflash.

Thanks guys, I know its the Turbo, I was just messing around. I'm gonna put my stock air filter back in but I'm leaving the tt on Monday AM.

You guys have made me a junkie in a little over 2 months. My wife thinks
I'm nuts. She wants to know why I keep leaving the house after the kids are in bed just to drive my truck! I only work 1.5 miles from home. I wish I could get a job a little farther away from home.

A friend of mine told me he really likes the sound ofmy afterburner He asked if people in their cars could here it too. I'm pretty sure they can.

And Kyle, The silencer ring came out the 2nd day I had it, Thanks to you guys!

Your fuel mileage is typical. I get around 13 around town and 18-24 on the highway if I keep it down to 1850 rpms I easliy get 24 on the highway.

How often do you guys tow? After my 5700 miles in 2 weeks of towing. My city mileage is 16-17 (granted that's with a relatively light foot most of the time, but still). At 70 empty I'm getting about 18-19, a bit less if it's really hilly. I have 9350 miles on my truck now, and by the new year I will have probably about 11000-12000 on it. May or may not have some towing going on in there. I was skeptical when I first heard it, but the more you work these trucks the better they respond. These motors appear to be the kind where if you keep them stock and are hard on them (just make sure they're up to temperature first), they'll respond very well.

tdupuis. I am getting the same mileage as you now that I have had the flash done. Only one long trip towing and that was a stock trailer with one horse. Ran with the trailer empty from Ft Worth to New Orleans, came back with an 1100 lb mare. The trip was about 1200 miles and I had about 5000 on the odometer. I now have about 9000.

I'm not complaining about the milage. On my last tank I made a few trips and I was happy with 14.5. I think I might hit 550 miles this tank with a 60% hwy 40% city . My city driving, I consider extrme . I make frequent short trips and lots of warm up time and Idleing.

After the reflash, camper top, 30,000 miles, Triple lock convertor, and maybe a TST or injectors I thought I might hit 22MPG at 70.
