Electric lock/window issues

Hi guys,

So a while ago, I was out and about, and both rear electric door locks stopped working. They worked when I put something into the back seat, then when I went to get it out, the locks would not unlock. Both still work manually, but neither with any electronic means (door lock buttons, remote). Also, I found a week later (not sure if it started the same time, but close) that you cannot put down the left rear window from the rear seat, but it still works from the drivers controller.

Not sure if it is connected, but the rear speakers quit working months ago (at exactly 100,000 miles )

With the wife out of work over a year now, I cannot afford a visit to my friendly (though high priced) dealer... Anyone have any suggestions of where to start? Any chance this is a connection issue, or is it all part of that silly computer?

Thanks!

Dennis

It all depends on how much time you have. All of the switches work off of 12v. You will have to remove the door panels and back track from the mechanism itself all the way to to the computer. You will need to apply a 12v sourse to say the window actuator to determine if its a motor issue. Then once you know that works you will need to check continuity throughout the wire harness to the window actuator. The from the switch, you will have to make sure that you have a 12v source at the switch and so forth. It can be done, but it will take a lot of time.

Personally I start by checking to make sure that you have power to and from the switch. I am assuming that there is some relay/fuse that would control that set.

To make your life easiest would be get a service manual. It will help you greatly when trouble shooting any so of issue.

Just curious to see if anyone has tried to take apart any of these switches. I am not saying this is your problem. It just seems that I've seen a lot of these threads lately and was wondering if it was possible to take apart these switches if that was found to be the problem.
In my Ford, I was able to take apart the switches and clean the tiny contacts inside the switch and this was after I was told it was not possible.

If you're good at reading schematics you can go to Dodge Body Builders Guide and find the wiring diagram for your vehicle.

The door locks are operated thru the instrument cluster.

Check the wiring inside the rubber "loom" you can see when you open the back doors. The wiring coming from the truck body to the door is weak and breaks. I've had to fix mine 3 times already. Let us know what you find.

I also had the same problem as jfdid... My wires were broke in the loom on the rear drivers side. I splice the cable and has been good since that point.
