DRW Conversion.......DONE

Well I finally got my SRW to DRW conversion completed. I went to ATlanta GA last weekend and met with a couple CF members and i swapped rear axles wih one gentleman, and bought a color matching Mega Dually bed from another. Two great guys and glad to have met them. I took my bed off at home because it had been damaged in a crash. I built a flat bed to haul somethings down for the swap and came home complete. Still have to wire up the frnder lights though.

Nice job. Did the brake lines, tank, and everything else line up right?

We kept the brake lines with the trucks so we didn't have to break open the brake system. Calipers and pads all the same. Mine is a 2006 and the axle swap truck was a 2004.5. We did find the Speed sensors had to be switched becasue of different style electrical connections, but other than that, pretty simple swap. The e-brake cables stayed with the trucks as they were diffeent lengths as well. The bed was just a bolt on and go.

Very nice job on the swap but from your last pic you're gonna have to get used to moving a little further away from the curb to save your duals . All in all truck looks factory.....very good job.

So what do you do when you go to sell it and it's not the truck that the title says it is?

He might worry that he's looking at a previous wreck that's been pieced back together. Maybe it would be a good idea to keep pics and documentation on this kind of project. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against this idea. I'd convert mine to 6 speed if it were affordable to do so, and I could guarantee no CEL lights.

I have pics to document OR there are always someone looking to swap....

BUT

The wife said I have to keep this truck till it falls apart underneath me, and at $56,000 to replace,, I cant disagree.

At least you do have 3500 on the door. I would have to do a big double take if I saw 2500 and duals in back. My neighbor has an old Chevy C10 that he put a 1 ton rear and duals under. it really looks cool. needs a paint job real bad though.

I had the 2500 on mine for a few weeks and yes - it made people do a double look. Then I replaced the 2500 with the latest 4500 nameplate and now even more people look!

Would I be out of line to ask what the total cost was for you to do the conversion?? I have often thought of converting my '06 2500 quad cab since I only use it for towing. It stays garaged and just turned 39k miles. It's showroom condtion and I know the engine has lots of life left. I also wish for a 6 speed tranny. Thanks. Phillip

when i converted mine from a dually to single, i would imagine there were some comments about the 3500 badge without the duals ( in '01 singles were not available on a 3500, duals only)!!!!

Looks great......I have been contemplating the exact same thing with my 3500 MegaCab. I have found the front spacers, rear inner & outer dually fenders for sale....just need six wheels w/tires, a painter, and some rear wheel spacers as I plan on retaining my rear axle.
