Dodge and New DMAX story
Dodge and New DMAX story
My son just hauled a 40' 5-wheeler from New York to Nashville with his 06 DRW 48RE. Trailer Weight 23,700. When he delivered the trailer the customer asked him where was his big truck. He said his Dodge was it. The customer said I bought an 07 DMAX and couldn't tow his 5-wheel. Said he couldn't get up the hills. That's why he had to pay to move it. My son told him no problem with the Dodge. So cool.

The guy was being a wuss. The GM tows heavy better than the dodge when comparing auto to auto. The guy likely thought it was bad when the hills slowed him down....not realizing they slowed the dodge too and every other truck as well. However, the GM still has that tiny little half ton cab, no ground clearance, a tiny little fuel tank and is ugly to boot. Can't be faulted on it's towing ability though.

This year we travelled the same route with my truck, the same quads and a bigger travel trailer. My gross combined weight was 1000 lbs heavier. Outside air temp was warmer this year. I towed the hill at 75 km/h and had no transmission heating issues.
Now I know the new dmax is 360 hp and that would make a big difference but the new trans just has an additional overdrive for economy and manual shift option. The same tow with a new dmax/allison combo would be better than the 05 but how much I don't know.
So I wouldn't say it tows heavy better than the dodge. Just my experience.
And I'm not a GM hater btw...looked seriously at buying one this year.

Yeah, and I believe what I read in Motor Trend magazine
.
Most of these tests do not transfrom well into th real word. I read a test where the Chevy caught fire and another where the Chevy front end fellout.
Why is it where 80% of the real haulers Dodges and most of them autos. About 15% Fords, and the rest Chevy. Someone posted a while back that the Dodge had the most reliable figures. If you believe a dealers tech saying they only had a couple of tranny problems I have some property in Florida...
It's their job to please the customer as it should be. I'm sure the Dodge techs do the same.

7 mpg !!!
What was the test load, 8500 pounds? I wonder what the real average mpg is from real users. I bet it's 10-12 mpg. I haven't towed that load, but I get over 15 mpg with a 6000 lb trailer.
