"ding" sound every once in a while

a couple days ago my truck while driving started a dinging sound. like a ding for not having on the seat belt. (but i have the seat belt ding turned off and i wear my seat belt) it is only one ding-not constant. i may get it twice (at separate times) during a 30 mile drive. no idiot lights on the dash are lit. truck runs great. any ideas??

Could be the lamp out light. Usually comes on once a bulb is on its way out or loose, than it comes on full time as soon as the bulb is out completely.

Had a similar problem once. hear a ding, look and see nothing. went on for 2 weeks. One day, I happened to be looking at the speedo when I heard the ding, and saw lampout flicker for a split sec. Turned out a bad tail light, certain bumps would set it off.

Tail light bulbs,,,, make sure they are in snug, look for signs of heat.

I like that explanation! I'll have to start looking.

Mine goes off and I have a check gauges light and something else in the dash bezel that lights up. I can't remember what all lights but it has done it since new and the dealer never could find anything. It has been five years with no ill effects, just another glitch.

When I had my 03, the check gauges light would flick every once in a while.

I took it to the dealer, and apparenlty there was a TSB/reflash for the problem...

Had your same problem, was my reverse light bulb on the way out, get enough vibration and it would short enough to trip the ding.
