Truck starts in second every odd once in awhile?

Hi All,

My truck seems to start out in second gear, maybe once every week or so, If I select 1st off I go, sometimes you just add a little throttle and it seems to kick in.

I think I have seen it before on the forum but could not find it with a search?

Truck is still runnin great though

very happy

vtailflyer;
I'd change filter and fluid just to see if it didn't help, I'm thinking sticking shift solenoid? Anyway that's what I'd do. Good luk to ya.

I changed the fluid and filter this winter with new fluid, That helped hugely with TC shudder, alot smoother now,

If you've had ANY lockup shudder in the past you are getting friction material particles abraded into your transmission fluid. Changing the fluid helped, but you still have the particles (like sludge) in the valve orifices which ruins the 2-1 downshift. My truck did the same, the engine was overpowering the lockup and getting worse, more sludge. I had ATS replace the governor solenoid, governor transducer, and fluid, but the downshift problem returned. Thus an ATS transmission was in order. This transmission doesn't slip, no shudder, no sludge.

When you changed the fluid did you put the friction additive in? If not this could be your problem.

I put in the shell ATF+3 fluid. It works very well, I suspect the old fluid which shuddered was dextron II with no additive,
