Crankcase vapour/exhaust Fume fix!!!
#46
I checked with a small flashlight and there is a direct open connection from the engine compartment at the inside fender and the holes we are taping over on the side of the fresh air chamber. 04.5 600

I was able to track down the missing one way rubber flappers that allows water to dain thru the "scupper" holes on each side of the fresh air chamber. Both were missing on my 04.5 Dodge. The part # is 55276332AB and are $ 1.30 each. They had 50 of them in the National Parts Depot of D/C. Dan who did the "FIX" showed a picture of his truck having one on the passenger side. I did not find the part number for the missing large oval plug, above and next to it. They must have run out of these small parts at the factory and didn't realize how the engine compartment fumes would enter the cab.

I have the fume problem as well on my '03 2500. I plan to try the fix mentioned in this thread before I find myself keeping the windows up during the upcoming winter driving season. But I have a few questions before I get too involved in trying to fix this problem.
I was able to remove both windsheid wipers from their mounting gears. I then removed the two screws from the far left and far right sides of the black plastic cowling that runs underneath the wipers. It is at this point that the plastic cowling still seems like it's not ready to come off just yet, as if something else is still holding it secure.
I noticed the black plastic cowl appears to actually be a two-piece assembly. Then there is a longer piece of fiber padding that sits in front of the cowling. The fiber padding seems to be attached to the cowling with 4 black plastic buttons.
Do I need to pull out the black plastic buttons in order to remove both the fiber padding and the cowl, or do I have the wrong idea of how to get the cowl off? If the buttons have to come out, does anyone have a part number so I can have some replacements on hand in case I damage the first few that come out?

I have had my truck in for the smell in the cab and for that matter the strong smell at the end of the pipe. two different dealers told me that it was normal and there was nothing they could do about it. My truck is at the one dealer right now still waiting for a fix. Thanks to you guys i am going to give them this information and see if they can take it to a higher level. Maybe get a recall?
