I have not used them my self but I did tell my dealer about them and got a price match from his so I didn't get to use them. Like you said all it takes is one claim to pay you back the money you paid for it.

Joe,

Read the fine print. Most will place a cap on the money that they will spend on any single repair like $2,000. Go over that and you are going to pay. Many also have a cap for total money spent over the term of the contract, usually a percentage of the vehicle's selling price, I have seen them as low as 20% total. They are also going to try anything that they can do to get out of a claim. If you can't provide proof that you are doing your scheduled maintenance, bingo denied. I sell heavy equipment and I used to sell extended warranties until I finally sat down and read the contract from cover to cover. Many are a rip off, and typically dealers will mark them up 100-200%, yes that is right they will double or triple the cost to you, and then you finance it so they make even more money. Good luck with it and be sure to read the contract first.

Bill

The dealer wanted $2000 for 4/48 at his cost????
I called the internet dealer and it was $1600 for 7/100,000. That is a big differance. The internet sales is a Dodge dealer that got smart and is high-voluming the warranties out to the public. Making a slow nickle rather than a fast dime. My local dealers are all hit and run salesmen. If they stopped Jerking people we wouldn't have to resort to the internet for what we want.
They said why would you buy from the internet? I told them "the best customer service I get was from people I never laid eyes on".

What year and how many miles on your truck. I was also considering this but I was quoted $2008 for the 7/100k warranty. I have a 06 4x4 with 18k on it. Do you happen to know what the difference is between the regular and "money back" warranty? I couldnt find any info on their site. On my 05 I purchased a 7/85k when i bought it for $1,195; that also included oil changes for the 7 years so it really only cost me about $300 bucks for the warranty. I should have kept the 05 but I needed(more accurately wanted) the space of the mega

Its an 05 4x4 CTD w/ 46,000. I don't buy anything through the dealer other than the rig. I would have bought privately but the longbeds are rare finds in these parts. I thought this was farm country?????? If you do find them they are no-frills trucks.

I called the 800# at Chryslerwarrants.com. The fellow Mike there called me right back. It was 1680 for it. You can buy it up to 48,000 on the odo. After that you are SOOL. He said if you take the money back it will guarrantee 100% refund if you don't use it durring the contract period. But towing and lockout kind of things are allowed. He told me not to waist the money, since you can get a prorated refund.

I like the extended contracts for resale value since I refuse to trade it. It makes it more comfortable for someone to buy your used vehicles.

It's a gimmick to get your money. Don't do it. Think about it. If DC thought they were going to pay out more than $1600 in warranty repairs over 7 yrs 100K they wouldn't even offer you this steal er uh "deal". Besides that, how many vehicles have you ever had in your life that required $1600 worth of warrantable repairs in the first 100K miles? Probably none unless you had a lemon. They might pay out $1600 on one in a hundred or maybe a thousand. Who knows and does it really matter cause like I said they are doing this to make money not to lose it. As others have said it's all in the fine print and there's lotsa gotchas in there.

Front axle joints and seals, which is quite common repair on the 3rd gens, will almost cover your cost(especially if you have a bad wheel bearing or two). Some people get more than their money's worth out of em, some never use the contract. From my experience in the dealer, almost every vehicle in for a repair that has a CSC makes out.
You have to consider that the CSC only pays out warranty price for labor and parts. You can count on at least a 40% increase in labor and God knows how much for parts(some of our parts are jacked up 200% by the parts dept.). A repair that would cost DC 400-500 could cost you $1000 with out a contract.

I had bought one on my Durango...

It definitely paid for itself.. several AC problems including a blend door (full dash removal) and also 3 power window motors. The transmission valve body was done under the regular warranty..

Maybe is was just a good dealer but there was never any question or bickering .. I also take my truck into them for the oil changes so they had records of all that.. I sold it with only 28,000 miles on it for my CTD.

Other than that is was a great truck....
