Check Engine Light at 5970 miles?
Anyone know why this would be coming on? My last GMC truck would come on as a reminder to change oil but I just got my oil changed two days ago and now the light comes on?

The on off key thing did not bring up my codes on my 2006. It does not work on other peoples 2006's too.
I had 2 CELs removed by the dealer. then I got a Smarty to read them myself. Dealer said they get many bogus CELs they clear then see if they return... Mine have not. (fan speed and some fuel pump thing which are listed in the Dodge Scan Tool as being inter dependent one bad code caused the other to trip?) I wonder if it's a Windoz 98 SW in the ECM LOL

I had the check engine light come on at around 2500 miles and almost S*#t a brick!
I took it in to find out that apparently I didn't let the thing warm up enough before turning the key. I don't recall the total specifics behind it and why exactly that happened but it didn't hurt anything and I never let that happen again. Now I don't turn that key until all lights and whirring cease to happen.

Are you plugging the truck in? If so, more than likely the CELs are due to batt temp. There is a TSB out for this.
I believe the way you get the codes are you have to hold in the trip reset button while turning the key to "on" position (not start). You gauges will do some self diags and I believe trouble codes pop up in the odometer display.

It is just temperamental, I thought mine didn't work either, till I read about it again here. You have to do it rather quickly, but also make sure you are getting to the "on" and "off".

Yeah, its an aggravation. I'm at 4900 miles now. The Check Engine Light (CEL) was on when I picked the rig up at the dealer (25 miles on it, but it had been sitting on the lot for several months). The mechanic said it had a code that indicated the batteries had partially discharged due to the long sit waiting for me to come along. Okay, that made sense. Then my second CEL was at about 2500 miles, right after I drove it out of my warm garage into temps down around 0 degrees. No explanation from the dealer, other than that they checked for TSB's, flashed the ECM, and verified that the CEL went out. Then it happened again last weekend, at 4900 miles. I had it in the garage to change headlight bulbs, which required removing the air filter box in the front right corner of the engine compartment. Upon reassembly, I neglected to reconnect the wiring harness that plugs in to the air filter housing. Started it up, pulled out of the garage into sub-zero temperatures, and the CEL came back on. I popped the hood and reconnected the sensor wire, but that didn't get the light to go out. Then I disconnected the batteries and let it sit for 20 minutes, again without success. So, I took it to the dealer, and got the same answer as before: checked for TSB's, flashed the ECM and verified that the CEL is off.
I didn't make too much of a fuss at the dealer because I figure this one is at least partially on me, but I am starting to get aggravated. Shouldn't these things be smart enough that once you fix an obvious problem the CEL can turn itself off? As long as it is still under warranty, this is a mere irritant. Once I go off warranty, however, it's going to start costing me money.
