50 miles after purchase..Check Engine!

A friend of mine bought a 2000 2500 4x4 CTD with 92k and some change. 50 miles off the dealers lot the CHECK ENGINE light comes on. He doesnt seem to think that the Dodge dealer in Yuma will honor his warranty since he bought the truck in Havasu. I dont have a warranty so had no info for him but I was under the impression that the warranty was 100k/7 yrs or which ever comes first. Any thoughts?

I'm pretty certain that unless he paid to have the warranty transferred there isn't one unless the selling dealer offered one.

Probably out of warranty now, but tell him not to get too excited. Let's find out what the codes are, and go from there. Got an Autozone around? They will read the codes for free. You also might be able to do one of the ignition switch tricks to get the codes. I'm not sure about the 2000 computer though.

The 2000 wont flash codes with the key tricks. I suggested Autozone for their code scanning abilities but not sure what he is going to do. I really had no idea you had to transfer the warranty. I will call him and find out what he is going to do and if we get some codes I can put them on here at some point. Thanks.

Ok then I was wrong about the codes, his book says that you cant flash the codes, I will bring it up to him and see what happens. Thanks for the input, I dont know anything about the newer trucks other than I dont want one!

Since he only put 50 miles on the truck, I would take it straight back to where it came from and see if they will fix it, or possibly split the expense. Was it a dodge dealer that he bought it from. If it was they should fix the truck. Most dealers at least will give a 30 - 90 day warrenty.

I bought my 2001 CTD used last year. Ive had it in the dealer for warrenty service on two seperate occasions. Two differnet dealers honored the 7/100k. I would take it back and see what happens.
