Ran it of fuel
Ran it of fuel
Yes its true I ran it out of fuel. Unfortunatley my fuel gauge lied to me. This happened last week. I put some more fuel in it, primed the heck out of it and finally after a few hours got it started. The next day I took a long trip and I noticed it wasnt running that good, less power, higher than normal exhaust temps but my fuel pressure was fine. I let my wife drive it yesterday to the store and it died on her half way there. I tried to get it started this morn. w/ no luck. I'm almost certain the lift pump is gone, how do I check to see if injection pump is cooked as well. Also if I was having fuel issues why wasnt there any variation in my fuel pressure?
From the off position, turn the ignition switch to on, then off, then on, then off, then on and watch the odometer window for DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) that pop up as it goes through its cycle test. Hopefully you won't see the dreaded P0216 (injection pump timing error) that spells the end of your VP44 injection pump. Let us know what you find.

Your sig says you have a FP gauge. You would know if you have a fuel pressure problem. If there is an injector pump problem you will start getting codes, like the infamous 216 code.

Yes I do have a FP gauge. The wierd thing is that shortly before this happened I noticed that my FP was running hire than normal, as well as my exhaust. I was thinking that my FP would of registered below the average. I checked for the 216 code-nothing.

To do the diagnostic, the ignition has to be turned on exactly 3 times as I outlined above. Anything more or less won't work. The third time it's turned on, leave it on and watch the odometer (mileage) window. You should see the truck go through a diagnostic routine. When it is finished, even if no codes are present, it should show Pdone (PCM check completed) in the odometer window.
