Which a/c compressor
Which a/c compressor
So my a/c compressor went out. Local shop wants $500 just for the compresor. My question is what brand are you using to replace your compressors and where did you get it from. Im trying to find a cheaper alternative.
yup. the local parts storehas them for $388 and $70 for the dryer.
Im just asking because I heard that some compressors are cutting belts. I want to make sure i stay away from those ones.

I haven't had any trouble out of one yet so I wouldn't know what brand to stay away from. I wouldn't get one off ebay though. If you do have trouble out of it your local parts store will be much easier to deal with.

Are you sure you dont just need the clutch for your compresser, thats usualy what goes wrong,,, 40 dollars and a simple job to fix one.
They can be purchased separate. I can't find it at any of the chain stores, but we have a local warehouse that stocks all that stuff. I know for a fact you can buy them separate because I have.
www.rockauto.com i went with four seasons and it has been great.

Granted I have a 5.9 but I got a brand new Sanden compressor from O'Reillys for $279 and the dryer and cold line from a local a/c shop for $45. I know these parts are out there, they just have to be tracked down.
Dammit...i just paid $450 from Dodge for a compressor and dryer. Oh well.
I have seen some compressor for around $200 but i dont want to chance it going bad in a few months or weeks. Im not saying Dodge is any better but it is what it is. Thanks for all the help everyone. Cross your fingers and hope this compressor lasts as long as the truck.
