Angry Brake master cylinder sensor BS

$3.00 part, they don't have a replacement, you have to buy the entire master cylinder, over $200! Has anyone else had this same problem?

'05 Ram 2500 4X4, heavy duty.

I figured out why my red dash brake light will not turn off. The brake fluid level sensor in my master cylinder broke off. I looked under the hood, and it was just hanging below the master cylinder, I have no idea how it broke. It's just a small plastic piece about 2" long, slides into the middle, botttom, drivers side of the master cylinder. Of course, Dodge does not show a replacement part, I have to buy the entire master cylinder, I'm not real happy about that...

Try a jumper wire across the two leads and see if the light goes out.

I bought an aftermarket masster cylinder, and that part did not come with it. Make sure it comes with the factory one.

That being said,,,if it's just the clip broke, couldn't you just shoo goo it into place.

I think there is a small resister inline, so I don't think jumping it will fix the idiot light. Jumping it with the correct ohm resister would tho. I'm pretty sure that when I replaced my master cylinder that it came with it...lemme do some looking and see what I can find out.

My friendly Dealer broke mine on the 04.5 replacing the filter mounted fuel pump. Dealer could only order the whole assembly including the master cylinder, then the tech simply removed the sensor from the new cylinder and replaced it into the old master cylinder making the work side of it quite easy, then he probably billed Dodge for the labor to replace the master cylinder. but as to your question, 3 years ago I was told assembly only, no sensor only available.

Sorry, mine was under warranty, is there a chance yours might still be warranty? Just a thought, or have you ahd the dealer service your fuel filter recently or a like service you can trace back to the possibility of them having broken it? My brake service light never came on so I didn't notice it immediatly.

i would look at an electrical schematic and see what the closed resistance is and jump it with the appropriate resistor. That's probably all it needs, but it's not a certainty. I too couldn't find just the sensor itself.

well I might have found the supplier for our switches and it looks like they sell em too. here's the site, there's a toll-free number to call at the top of the page. Good luck.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have not tried it yet, but my first plan is to try and glue it back in place. No, it's been a while since it's been to the dealer, but I know I have not been in that area of the truck at all, so I have no idea how it got broke. It's not under warranty, expired about 10,000 miles ago. If all else fails, I may order one from the web site recommended. Thanks again!
