I was driving north on I-85 in North Carolina last week, and an 18 wheeler that was passing me pulled up beside me, slowed down, honked his horn, and gave me the thumbs up. I'm pretty sure it was because of the 5" outside-the-bed stacks I have on my truck. That kinda made my day.

I was parked at a drive-in hotdog stand, this past summer. When I backed out, a little girl (couldn't have been 9 or 10) sitting in the car next to me, hollered out her window, "Sir!"
I stopped.
And with eyes the size of saucers and a smile that would kill she said "you have a really pretty truck"
Made my day.

Another time, this past fall, I received a phone call from my kids' school. They asked if I would pull a float in the homecoming parade. They said all of the kids and parents had decided I had the nicest truck of any of the parents in my son's class. Don't think I wasn't sittin' high drivin' in that parade.

Neighbor came over and said "Now that's a truck!".

On another side note, fell out of my chair when I heard what FORD stands for.

I've had several unaware people ask me, "has that got a Hemi in it", jokingly? I tell them no and that questions like that cut kinda deep on me.

general public gassers just don't know how fanatical we diesel dudes can be.

A not very car Savvy friend of mine went for a ride in my truck and told me he thought my "Afterburner sounded really cool" Then he says "Can other people hear that in their cars next to you"? Duh, I think so!

Then of course every person who gets in my truck has to say "Man this thing is huge" I'm tired of pointing out the grab handles for all the whiners. Maybe I'll get some stickers for the door jambs that say "Whiners grab here"

only thing anyone has said to me thus far is "i don't even want to know what kind of gas mileage that thing gets." this was on campus, and coming from someone who appeared to be a hippie. i said "it doesn't run on gas, that's all you need to know."

Well i get the usual idiots commenting on mine. "your truck is 7500lbs and wont come close to touching mine. its too heavy and its a diesel made to pull, not race. Ill take you out"

5 minutes later

"woah dude, your truck is freaking fast. I didnt think you would beat me, and i didnt think i would get beat that badly. 5 Truck lengths is a lot"

oh, i also like the comments "I didnt know a diesel could lay such long black strips"

My two favorites:

#1. Good friend of mine (ex Navy aerdale) says, "A 1500 would have sufficed, a 2500 would have been over kill, but you had to go with the 3500 didn't ya....AND it smells like JP4 to boot!" And then he climbed into his Ford minivan I would have been offended, but he's a good friend and just poking a little fun.

#2. Another guy I work with (we'll call him Joe) has a 2002 Chevy 2500 Heavy Duty (gas), 4x4 short bed with 315/75/17s (after market rims). I parked next to him one day in the parking lot and another co-worker who saw the two trucks on his way in and says, "Man, yout new Dodge makes Joe's truck look like a toy!"

I rarely get any kind of comments on my truck....except from the occasional person who might say "is that a diesel?"

Yeah, I love when people ask that while the Cummins is hammering away and we're standing in a haze of partly burned #2 from the POD's.

The 03 has gotten lots of " nice truck" from the guys at work but the funniest compliment I ever got was on my 80 PowerWagon Click here for pic .

When I went to pick it up my mom drove me and she was babysitting my 5yr old niece and her friend who is really quite short even for a five year old..I mean she could look under the frame rails of this truck..LOL..

Well I finished up the paper work and the girls wanted to ride with me so we got them in and belted in and I stoked up the 440 with duals that have kinda a wide spot in the pipe..lol..

They're eyes got big and my niece says" Uncle Bill you could be a police man in this truck." and the little one turns to me and says " Uncle Bill you could run over a police man in this truck".

I still get a chuckle every time I think of it..

sorry to throw in a gasser story but I thought I'd share.
