Someone gave Cummins the coolest compliment today...

This one will probably be easier understood by those of you that have worked with large servers/have a lot of experience with computers.

Here's the background:

I recently bought a really big server that I plan to colocate (where you send your hardware out to a datacenter where it is put on a fast connection and has steady power, cool air, etc.) in Chicago.

I was on a web hosting forum asking about power consumption, because that can be very expensive.

Anyway, there was someone who had posted in the thread that had several of these servers that gave me a great idea about how much power they consumed.

Anyway, I discussed selling the server (I got it for about 1/4 of what it is really worth) and buying something smaller that would consume less power.

The server is probably worth about $2,000 to give you an idea of how powerful it is.

It has 4 2GHz Xeon MP (like hyperthreading on P4s) processors, can support up to 32GB of RAM and can hold up to 12 Ultra320 SCSI drives, has 3 600w power supplies, and weighs 130lbs empty.

To put it in simple terms: It is about 8x as powerful as the average computer. It is a MONSTER.

(my name is dieselfuelonly on that forum too, I have not mentioned one thing else about anything diesel/truck related on there, nor do I have any links in my profile.):

First he starts out by saying the following about the server (line pulled from one of his posts):

Regards & keep these boys running, they are the 727's of this business
<-- Talking about the server

Next, our conversation continues on and he made a comment that just made my day:

I know, it's still a <beep> of a server, I likened it to a 727 above in an earlier post. Since you're a dieselhead a better way to put it would be to compare it to Cummins I-6
How is that for cool .

Here is a link to the thread if any of you are BORED AT WORK and want to read it like me and do this kinda thing in between everything else:

Maybe in a roundabout way he was actually saying your server isn't quite up to par just like the Cummins I-6?

Ok that was a bad joke, I was just playing around.
